What's the Hardest game you have ever played

The worst thing is when you play a game that's difficult because it's badly designed. When you die for the twentieth time because your jump button wasn't responding (that Lion King game on MSDOS, I'm looking at you!) it's far more frustrating to keep playing. Super Meat Boy, for example, is well-designed in that regard, so it really doesn't matter if (and when) you die.

Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts on professional mode.

I can only get to the second stage. And that's after getting game over about 70 trillion times.

Probably Super Meat Boy.

It's not like IWBTG which relies on bullshit instakills and stupidly long levels, SMB relies on its jumping mechanic and timing to be hard.

Super Meat Boy (the last 3 levels collectively took me at least 3 hours, and this is a game where if you know what you're doing, most levels are about 10 seconds), but I still liked it quite a bit because it doesn't pull cheap deaths out of its ass; whenever you die, it's because you misjudged the jump or messed up the timing, not because of bad controls or things like that.

I Wanna Be the Guy? Unless we're talking about games I actually finished and don't completely rely on fake difficulty.

Devil May Cry 3 and 4 on DMD and DMC4 Bloody Palace. Ninja Gaiden Black on Master Ninja and NG2 on Mentor. I have to remember to start Master Ninja (I blame Shin Megami Tensei for distracting me). 1CC in various Touhou games. Still trying to 1CC DeathSmiles. I probably shouldn't be using Casper all the time or I should learn to use her better.

Ninja Gaiden 1-3 and Castlevania 1-4, all on NES.
That and Mega Man 9. Goddamn, that game gets hard at the end.

For tactical difficulty, Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. I beat the game itself on normal, moved on to the expansion pack, where I ran into a boss I just couldn't kill. I didn't feel like wasting a whole afternoon on it, so I turned the difficulty down to Easy, beat the boss, moved on - and forgot to turn the difficulty back up. I got to the final boss, she kicked my ass a few times, so I went to turn the difficulty down - and saw that I couldn't. To this day, I haven't beaten that game.

For all-our difficulty, Devil May Cry 3. I have the PC version and no controller, and, even used to the controls as I am, I can't make it past Hard on certain missions, let alone Dante Must Die. It's just so... brutal, and makes me feel like I'm a shitty player.

Hardest game i've ever played? "I Wanna Be The Guy" if you haven't heard of it, it's a platformer game designed to be incredibly hard with millions of cheap tricks in it

Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2.

I only have the demo, but I keep getting attacks spammed at me that I can't block :(

Alone in the Dark. The new one. That game was fucking IMPOSSIBLE because the nothing worked the way it was supposed to. The game basically decided what the controls were going to do in any given moment. If you needed to dodge to the left spontaneously to avoid being decapitated and the game decided you weren't worthy of keeping your head anymore, then that sucks for you.

And don't even get me started on the driving mechanics and their effects on the driving through Manhattan blowing up thing.

Hardest game I ever played was Manhunt, on PS2.

I got halfway through stage 2. That's how hard it was for me. I would spend entire afternoons trying over and over and over again, but I could never get past that. Fucking crowbar, couldn't find it. One time I almost made it through the door, and then I got killed.

The Void, a pretty unknown game i randomly picked up on a steam sale. Absolutely bizarre setting, story, and gameplay. I thoroughly respect it as a game but its just so weird that i couldn't get anywhere...

N+ on the DS. It starts out pretty smoothly, but DAMN, does it get hard towards the end.

Also, it may just be because I am abysmal at the genre, but Starcraft. I can't even get through the Terran campaign, I'm stuck on "Norad II". -_-
