Any pokemon game I have ever played has more hours on it than any other game that isn't pokemon.

Many of you are mentioning MMOs which I don't think should really count cause those games are meant to be played for hundreds of hours doing the same thing over and over again. If we're counting those, then the Castle Perilous MUD, which is now defunct, easily cost me 1000+ hours of my pre-teen life. I easily spent 10+ hours a day playing that for an entire summer.
As for conventional games. I'd have to say Final Fantasy 10. The closest I ever got to 100% completion of a modern game. I got all the ultimate weapons and defeated all of the optional bosses outside of the arena. The arena is the only thing I didn't complete fully, but I had less than 10 monsters left to fight.
I know a guy that filled out the entire sphere grid for every single character in that game. Can't imagine how long that took.

As a whole series? Pokemon, I've spent months (literally) on those games. Have played since Red and until generation 4, I've definitely spent around a thousand hours on the games of each generation.

The World Ends With You probably. I have spent around 550 hours on that <3.

About 600+ on my old Gold cartridge, until the internal battery failed. Currently my longest is 178:39 on Platinum. I don't have the time for it like I used to (or patience, for that matter). But in general Pokémon games have always been the ones I've clocked the most hours on. All save files combined, it should easily go past the 10000 hour mark.
Oblivion across all save files, around 700 hours.
Fallout 3 across all save files, around 600 hours.
My friend had over 20,000 hours on Battlefield 2 on computer. I don't know how he did it.

Difficult;
FFVIII I think wins - I must have completed that at least ten times with 100 hours a piece. Everything about that game is so well crafted, the concept, plot, characters, battle system, side quests. Brilliant
Runescape gets a mention - I had Level 99 Fletching, Woodcutting, Fishing, Cooking and Magic. Easy skills, but not modest on the time consumption that's for certain.
Over game time ceilings tumble after that - 100 hours is the norm, I like RPGs and Sandbox type affairs, proper game worlds where you can set up shop for the winter.
Part of me misses the days I could do that - a bigger part of me is glad its all behind me.
