To be honest, it disappointed me that the most sadistic and vicious murders in that movie were done by the protagonist.Barbas said:Well, when I first watched it, I thought 28 Days Later qualified all right - the eyes, the eyes! Watch where you're waving those thumbs, pal!
That's a good one! I also recommend The Woman, but what I find disturbing about it lies mostly in how the villain reminds me of Will Ferrell.Senneca said:You wanna see a fucked up movie? Watch Deadgirl. You can find it on Netflix. I had no idea what I was walking into when I started that one...
Both by the same director, no less. I found both movies to be dark and refreshingly jarring if a bit heavy-handed, but the caveat is that I never lost sight of the fact that the 'victims' were horrible monsters too.Frezzato said:I've been looking forward to Bethesda's take on Doom ever since E3 last year, which is odd considering my most recent purchases are The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, and The Talos Principle. Then again I did pick up Dying Light and the Metro Redux, but those are still kind of RPG-ish.

Regarding The Woman, I really like Pollyanna McIntosh, and I'm hoping she continues to get big roles. I liked her in Let Us Prey (2014), which is somewhat fitting for this thread.the December King said:Both by the same director, no less. Well I think it came out right since it's stuff you enjoyed lol.FPLOON said:The OVA series Boku no Pico... There's something about watching Pico doing slice-of-life shit that get the blood pumping... Oh wait... That did not come out right...I blindly bought that series on DVD years ago at Comic-Con... Totally worth watching twice a year, at least...MetalShadowChaos said:Rin, Daughters of the Mnemosyne springs to mind. Really good 6 part anime series about immortal ladies and fucked up angels with huge time jumps between episodes. It's also got a taste for brutal violence, since the protagonists are immortal in the sense that their bodies are preserved in the state that they became immortal, kind of like a save state. Rin became immortal with an minor eye condition so she'll always have to wear glasses, since if she went through corrective surgery her body would revert back to her pre-operation state. Basically means there's lots of torture and bloody violence with no physical consequence to the character, and the series relishes in that opportunity. It's good series though, the guy who plays Kawaru in Evangelion is in it playing... Kawaru, basically. He's good. What if you just watched the first movie, since it's the only one that actually tries to have a "logical" plot?Saltyk said:I refuse to watch the Saw movies and such as they are just torture porn.
I thought of putting Gantz up as well, but I can't say I enjoyed it as a whole. The first 100 or so chapters I thought were actually really good. It felt like it was going to be something completely different than what it eventually became: mean-spirited social satire with the alien hunts being merely an excuse to explore different characters and then kill them off in brutal ways. However, for me the manga swiftly went down the toilet when they introduced the love interest, then the vampires, then the wallowing in tits and gore combined with the effort of having a heartfelt and sincere storyline and making the protagonist a hero. It didn't jel with the vibe the manga initially put out at all. And yeah, the ending was a total trainwreck. You can practically hear the author going "pleeeease, let it eeeeend!!!" through the pages. The alien designs were outstanding till the very end though.Mahorfeus said:Hm. Gantz, probably. A lot like Berserk content-wise, but being set in the "real" world somehow makes it more disturbing. Gore, dismemberment, rape, sex, and of course, some insane existential mind fuckery. A shame the ending was a bit of a trainwreck.
It's... definitely a mess. I actually liked the love interest, if only because she was the reason the protagonist stopped being such a total douche. Seriously, I don't think I've ever read another series that has the protagonist start out as being so unlikable. It was some good character development. But having chapter after chapter after chapter of her running around naked got really old, really fast. But the vampires, ugh, don't get me started on them. Even the author apparently forgot that they fucking exist, since you never see them again.bartholen said:I thought of putting Gantz up as well, but I can't say I enjoyed it as a whole. I too actually didn't mind the love interest, it was just that it was around that point that the manga started going downhill by becoming more serious and straightforwardly about fighting the aliens. It was rather refreshing to not have the protagonist get the uber hot chick or the badass action girl, but a shy, demure ordinary girl. And their relationship was rather sweet, if completely out of the blue. We don't see them grow on each other over time, but jump straight to "banging like jackrabbits" mode. A missed opportunity, but perhaps a preferable option to having some awkward romantic writing.Mahorfeus said:It's... definitely a mess. Totally agree with that. It's one of the most interesting disturbing films out there.Senneca said:You wanna see a fucked up movie? Watch Deadgirl. You can find it on Netflix. I had no idea what I was walking into when I started that one...
