Games have almost always been restricted. By imagination, for example. But that aside, I think the greatest restriction there is the perspective.

We have FPS, TPS, isometric, eye-in-the-sky, side-scrolling, fixed-cameras... & these are natural, they're based on the possible ways one can visually perceive the game. So what else can be created?

Of course, there's also the genre restrictions: adventure, action, shooter, puzzle, racing, sports, simulations, exploration... so what else can be thought up?

Let's see if we can think of anything new, be it genre-wise, perspective-wise, anything. Popping LSD will help. & if anyone knows any games that break these norms, then lets hear about it!

You've answered your own thread. All we need is a game based around LSD. Screw Atkinson/Vaz/Thompson/Frumpy Mom. A game based around LSD would be awesome. I'd pay for it, definitely :D

Actually, thinking about it seriously, that could work well as a horror or as an arty game. And we've already seen a shift recently towards new types of gaming, mainly in indie development but also somewhat with companies like Quantic Dream. And there are plenty of 'art games' around that are really good, such as The Graveyard and The Path...

I think the next big innovation will come from true Role Playing Games. This means that each action you take can/will have a dramatic and dynamic consequence. It won't simply be a logical tree of responses and reactions on the part of the NPCs, but the game will be able to determine what each character would do according to the programmed personality of the character. Basically like the holodeck, but without the holograms.

But these actions & consequences can be reproduced by any other player following the same steps you did. No game I know of can be played exactly the same way by 2 people & yet be a completely different experience.

True, games like The Path have no absolute objective & therefore are similar to tripping, but it wasn't REALLY entertaining was it?

Now, a game which involves you creating your own hallucinations, warped by other random input either from you or from the computer, either for artistic purposes or for a certain objective (Nirvana Achieved!), sounds interesting.

WHAT GENRE IS IT?!

Besides the AWESOME genre.
Actually, I think that's the official genre. One of the best games on the 360 I say.
