Req - take a few snapshots and link them here. I am sure you will get a few honest opinions of your work, and if there is criticism the folks worth listening to will be respectful about it.

If you enjoy it keep with it. If you are good at it then try to get back into the groove of enjoying it.

You will never, ever be 'good'. Because as an artist you should never except that you have plateaued. There is always room for improvement. Look at all the greats, everyone of them hated their work, thought so and so was better, or contemplated giving up. Once you think you're good, you're done.

All I can say is carry on if you enjoy it, and if you don't then just don't. I play the guitar and I'm not that good, but I still get it out most days and play it because I enjoy doing it. It's that simple.

I can recommend a healthy dose of nude models. Like that other dude.
And post some of your artwork in Labyrinth's 'The artist in thee' thread, I would love to see it.

How about you post some artwork up on the escapist? We wouldnt patronize you like these other people you mentioned. If its truely depressing you then maybe you should stop for a while, wait until you have the time to work on it without distractions.

Well first of all you should be proud of yourself for being the type that never gives up. I know how it feels and i can relate, you see no point in anything but something keeps you going.

As for your current predicament with the project do what you've always done, keep going. Only this time be a little more cautious and take pictures of your work so you can a) remember what you've done and b) prove to people that your doing it.

It shows true character and determination to pull yourself up from something and restart, its something that people are forgetting and is becoming rare in today's society. So many give up and they shouldn't. Just keep at it my friend, you shall see the fruits of your labour soon.

As a future psychiatrist and good adviser, I have this to say.

Is art really your passion? Or are you trying to become something you're not?

You have to ask yourself if this is really what you want to do, and if not, find something new to express yourself with.

*Blinks* Well then I'm done with my work here *turns to camera and waves* Goodnight everybody!

*crickets* That's the sound of every single person looking at you and thinking "Asshole", followed by no one disagreeing. Asshole.

And dude, you love it but you hate it so...I say get some more sleep then maybe go at it a bit more slowly, working at it a bit at a time over more time. You might like it more as it gives more time for you to shape it in a way that you enjoy, and the sleep you might just be able to relax a bit, maybe let you focus or even un-focus on your work and let it flow a bit more naturally.

Oh and nowadays it's not about photo shop. True art will always be appreciated, no matter how good someone is with photo shop, people will still look to the guy with a strange lump and a chisel and call him the artist, don't worry about it.
