Actually, I don't think I could've put it more eloquently at all. That'd require me to feel differently on the matter, to give the statement a positive note when I don't have one. Sorry, I chose honesty this time.
It's a pity you didn't choose reading comprehension.

Zelda, Metroid, Half Life and Warcraft are the franchises that never had a bad installment IMO.

Mortal Kombat is iconic for it's characters and for being one of the first games who weren't afraid to get violent and gory. Also it always had a strong sense of camp and humor it sorta has become the Evil Dead series of video games to me. You can't take it seriously, but it's fun.

As a fan of strategy games I'll say the Command&Concquer series published by Westwood Studios and EA.

Leisure Suit Larry, end of thread.
You can't end thread yourself, it breaks the internet!
And besides, you haven't even TRIED to justify why, and I could safely say that with it's two latest flops, it's one of the weakest.

Get your flame suit out.

And really, I agree that the series is extremely strong. The first three rounds (One, Two, Tactics) were revolutionary, and Three was rated one of the best games of 2008.

the best game series would probably be:

Final Fantasy
Pokemon
Mario, donkey kong, Mario Party/Tenis/Soccer ect...
Super Smash Bros
The Legend of Zelda
Metroid
The Sims
GTA
Madden NFL games
NBA live games
FIFA games (not as good as pro but probably does better)
Pro Evolution Soccer
Tom Clancy games
WWE (WWF) games
Gran Turismo
Halo
Gears of War
Call of Duty
Guitar Hero
Rock Band
Dance mat type games
Spyro the Dragon
Crash
Worms
Tekken
Street Fighter
Tomb Raider
James Bond
if you class all marvel games as a series, they would probably be up there, aswill spider-man as a gaming series probably on his own
Need for speed games....other racing games that have had lot of releases should probably be up here but i just know there are a lot of need for speeds

sorry bout the massive list, but when i thought of another, another one came into my head aswell.

Really? A lot of people liked it. Having missed the other two I can't compare but if you didn't have those experiences as a measure would you have liked Fallout 3.

LINK AND ZELDA
Agreed. Haven't played a Zelda I didn't like.

Uhhhh A Legend of Zelda 2, I don't consider Link games a good series because all of the games are the same
don't flame yet... I can justify this
In a 3d zelda game every dungeon puzzles are EXACTLY THE SAME

this isn't saying much about my choice in pokemon though

Final Fantasy series? Are you joking? Sure everyone has a favorite Final Fantasy game, but hardly anyone loves ALL of them. I'd call that plenty weak. I'd have to agree with Pokemon, though I do so loathe the videogames/movies/shows/cards/universe...

I personally can't think of a series I like that I'd consider strong. I don't think Street Fighter counts since it's just a good dozen different renditions of the EXACT SAME GAME.

Yeah, no. Can't think of one.
I disagree. Does a series have to be loved by all to be strong or just sell well consistently for a long period of time, even if those who buy it then profess their unbridled hatred for it on TEH INTERNETZ?

I think not. For example, these three from a post above mine:

1. Mario
2. Final Fantasy
3. Pokemon
are all strong, long series because they're still selling well and have been doing so for a long time, even if the vast majority of people you talk to despise how each pokémon game is just the nth rendition of RBY with new gimmicks attached and a new list of pokémon like the 'awesomeness' that is Combee.

Your reasoning is sound, but my definition of a strong series isn't dependant on sales. As an extremely leaning and biased example (sorry) if everyone in the world bought the fourth installment of an otherwise very successful franchise called Turd, The Game, and brought it home only to find they bought a piece of crap, sales wouuldn't exactly indicate a strong series. It'd indicate a talented marketing team. To me a strong series is highly dependant on its roots, what kind of game it is, and what kind of game its trying to be. A good game contains strong surprises and secrets that those who didn't play the game would miss out on. A bad game is one where I can play through the first disc and roughly guess how the next 3 will play out, finish the game, and discover I'm right. Game critics everywhere have soured the market with 8.2s and 97/100s. I find my scale tends to be on a steeper bell curve. So when SuperCritic.interbutts gives Extremo-RPG a 7 out of 10 which to me now firmly reads as a mediocre and uninspired play through, I don't trust the public when it says the game is awesome. 8's or 80%'s tend to be "mediocre but at least it's pretty!" which tends to be where most of the new Final Fantasies fall. I'm pretty sure they're great games by themselves if you hadn't grown up playing the other ones because then the stories would be new and original. But they're not. And I'm not going anywhere, I'm 21. That's quite a few conscious years of gaming, and I still remember the games they used to make. They're marketting and rolling out cash-cows and while the graphics may be getting a boost the gameplay is too samey. It's not like Call of Duty where you cant exactly reinvent walking and shooting, but they remain solid through an introduction of new mechanics, compelling storylines, and environmental challenges.

So final fantasy pumps out another game about a band of adventurers who have to collect the crystals and destroy the baddies guardiing them while collecting a bunch of demons to serve their bidding all in an effort to save the planet, swell, that's great, that's what's kept Final Fantasy going and I'm not saying change that. But by god mix it up. How about a low key final fantasy where success doesn't mean level 99? Where you fight all the guardians to earn them, and maybe instead of the whole world you'r just rescueing one continent, or one state? Or go bigger and rescue the galaxy? They dont GO ANYWHERE and the series has gotten on my nerves. There's plenty of potential but nothing kinetic.

A strong series is not dependant on sales alone. To me, a strong series is one that can stand the test of time, and isn't just a fickle display of what we can do here and now only to be looked back on with a distaste and disbelief. A strong series is one I can go back to without rose tinted glasses and not get dissappointed. Pokemon can do that. SOME of the final fantasies can do that, and who doesn't believe Mortal Kombat cant do that either? But a strong series is one that consistantly hits that mark. Final Fantasy 7 is a strong game (one I hate). Final Fantasy 8 is a strong game (one I like). Final fantasy 10, Street Fighter 398494-billion, etc. Starcraft is a strong game, it's been strong since 1998 and people still play it in great numbers. But to get a whole series to be that spiritually successful takes strength of design I've only ever seen in companies like valve.

Of course I'm bickering over definitions in a language as diverse and tricky as English so, whatever. Final Fantasy is a strong series to you because it sells well and a few of the games were fun. Woop.

I don't think anybody mentioned the Castlevania series yet.

Barring some exceptions and few titles only released in Japan, we've got a series with a lot of titles, most of which are good to great.

was I just... too old to notice this pokemon? I see it on here all the time, "whats your favorite game thread #4005 post #2159: OMG POKEMON SILVER PEW PEW OR MAYBE PLATINUM OR MAYBE BLUE"

I've never caught a pokemon. And if I did catch one, I assure you, I would skin it, roast it over a spit, tan the hide, and then consume the meat using the hide as a tablecloth.

I agree with
POKEMON!
But I would have to say
Final Fantasy
As much as I hate the series, I think its' had more games than the former. I could be wrong though.
