What's up With All the COD Elite Hate?

It seems as if no matter what the Call of Duty series does, people are going to bash it for not "innovating." Well now people have found a new reason to bash COD, and that is because of the new service that Activision is offering to it's fanbase, the Call of Duty Elite. Might I ask why? It's nothing like the online pass problem, where Activision is taking away features if you don't pay for the service. You can still play singleplayer, multiplayer, or whatever else on the disk. If you don't want to pay the extra 50 dollars, then don't. But don't condemn anyone who does.

Unless you are just playing CoD and I mean only CoD it is complete utter waste of money as they are trying to get to pay for something that already exists and other companies like their competitors do a similar as well as a community run groups doing this stuff for free.

It is nothing that hasn't been done before and for free which is the big problem with most things like this. So yes I am going to condemn some people for thinking it is ok to pay for something that is already free and then getting the pubs and stockholders into this mind step that this stuff is ok and they can get away with paying extortionate rates for FREE.

It's free elsewhere. It's another money-grab. It's tasteless.

It's a business though, and I don't care, nor do I have time for games like Call of Duty anymore.

I don't understand it, perhaps because at some point in my early development I discovered/decided that it was better to stand out for having an original thought or opinion or pattern of behavior than to be praised for conformity and mediocrity and banality, and because shortly after I developed a detector for those who pretend to do the above.

So I guess my question is this: why does it make you proud to be the 417th Escapist to start a "why all the call of duty hate?" thread, as though you aren't aware of all the others, or as though we're all DUMB enough not to figure out that you used the same structure, syntax and grammar in the name of your thread. You are as aware of their existence as anyone. So you've obviously visited those threads. Which means you know the answers, and surely you're intelligent enough to know that, if you don't understand the answers, that asking the same people again isn't going to get you anywhere.

Let me help you out here: we don't like everything you like. We don't have to. That goes both ways. Enjoy your life. Stop nitpicking and you'll literally be a happier person.

Also: Bacon, Cthulu, flying spaghetti monster, ponies, PS3 kicks XBox's ass and vice versa, Nintendo is destroying the world, Bethesda/Infinity ward hates PC gamers and killed my dad and knocked up my mom, and TL;DR.

Wow, you sir completely missed the point of this thread, congratulations. I never said anyone had to like the same things I liked, I'm just asking why everyone on this site's throwing a shit fit over something that they don't even have to pay for.

Because CoD is setting up a dangerous precedent.

Mr. Burns: [chuckles] And to think, Smithers: you laughed when I bought TicketMaster. "Nobody's going to pay a 100% service charge."
Mr. Smithers: Well, it's a policy that ensures a healthy mix of the rich and the ignorant, sir.
Thats essentially what CoD elite boils down to. Nothing good comes of it, and the only thing it accomplishes is sets a dangerous economic precedent that results in this sort of thing becoming an industry standard all because the people with more money than sense buy into it as early adopters and it dupes the ignorant into thinking that its something they need to have as well.

So technically, its not even hate against CoD, Activision, etc, its hate against the people who will screw every gamer over by buying into this nonsense.

Because companies like Valve find money after launch by supporting the game for free (Portal 2 DLC, Team Fortress 2 updates) while companies like Activision find money by charging for maps and releasing a new game year after year.

Becuase Elite is $50 for essentailly a gorius statistics table and access to some videos. Essentially stuff that has been done many times for free. Steam stats for L4D are pretty much the same but free, and loads of games have had free commentary videos available, not to mention Let's Play videos and other sites that host recorded commentary on games.

And as someone else said, it sets a bad precedent. If companies copy them we'll all be paying $110 per game, just to access features that should be free. Thank god for Valve.

They are renting features at $50 / year that other games such as Halo come with normally.
So not only do they hustle their fans for double price but they don't even let them keep the prize, but worst of all this is people walking into it blindly and defending it to the bitter end... you are the sole reason such horseshit can be pulled.

Well, thanks! I worked really hard to get here :p

Anyway, sorry, but you seem determined to engage me on a point that I haven't really shown much concern for. I was just wondering why you want to create a thread that's been done to the point of being nauseating. Why would you want to do that, and why can't I get an honest answer out of you?

Oh, I see! I haven't been clear. I'm sorry, that last post was a bit oblique. Let's get straight to the point, then. I'll shoot from the hip:

What's up with all the "Why are you hating CoD"-threads? Seems to be more of these threads than actual threads about CoD-hate

I believe his point was to say what's the point of bringing this up when there are so many threads asking the exact same thing over and over again.

More OT: It's mainly because it's an extremely exploitative business strategy and it gives other publishers and developers the same idea because they make tons of money for it. Yes, I know I don't have to pay for it, but people are entitled to their own opinions and dislikes towards things. For example, I don't like racist people even though I've never been insulted for my race. I'm not affected by racists at all, but I still dislike them because what they do seems wrong to me, just as exploiting the consumer for every last penny they can grab seems wrong to me.

Really?! Free elsewhere? I personally am not getting CoD elite, but to be fair when you purchase this you are getting all the dlc at a discounted price. I really don't think games give away dlc for free elswhere, and frankly this is just like GoW3's online pass where you buy and also get a discounted price on the dlc. If you are only buying a couple of shooters a year (not me personally) and all you play is CoD then this sounds like just the thing for you. And frankly that gun analysis, map analysis etc... That all looks like crap so even if another franchise was doing that for free probably wouldn't use it because it really isn't my type of thing, I just prefer to play the game especially when it comes to shooters.
