Pretty good year so far, methinks
Okamiden came out last year. And didn't you read in opening post that he said DA2 was meh.

I kind of agree with the idea behind this thread. For me the dissapointments were Bulletstorm with it's less interesting scoring system than I hoped and the annoying DRM along with some other things. The Muchi Muchi Pork and Pink Sweets releases turned out to be bad ports. So that leaves only Marvel vs Capcom 3, which is kind of cool and kind of a joke at the same time.

I'm sorta in the same boat as the OP. A lot of this year's early high profile releases haven't done much for me.

Still got Portal 2, Skyrim, Dark Souls, and Bioshock on the way, though. All four look pretty damn amazing.
Bioshock Infinite will come out in 2012.

OP's opinion =/= fact

And Okamiden was only released last year in Japan.

DA2 was ok, but not up to Bioware's usual standard IMO. It was clearly rushed at the behest of EA.

Shogun 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim will be this year's winners, I expect.

I don't think you can count a game just because it was released late in a certain region. Probably the only late releases that should count as games released this year are thos that add a whole lot of stuff, like the Muchi Pork/ Pink Sweets port.

The current Gen of Pokemon games were released in Japan last year. They still count as 2011 releases everywhere else.

Is anything that isn't a sequel actually going to come out this year?
Child of Eden

Catherine

Brink

Anarchy Reigns

Deus Ex: Half Robot (sort of)

Dark Souls (sort of)

Bulletstorm (granted, that one's been released)

+many games about which I have heard nothing.
The Last Guardian technically isn't a sequel either, or at least from what I've read.

This is my opinion so please don't get offended:

I believe the problem in general is that most of the games this generation have been nothing but continuing parts in a series. We haven't really seen much innovation so I believe this had led developers and gamers to think "if the games meet these certain standards, then it will be okay if it does nothing else."

I think part of the problem is so entrenched in your mind, and the minds of many others, that you don't even realize it. Re-read your sentence.

or any other game that had serious potential for a 9/10 but got like an 8 or less.

8 out of 10 is NOT a bad score. The problem isn't that games are "meh", is that expectations have gone through the roof and are now firmly on the planet Pluto (yes, I said planet, eat that science). If a game doesn't get a perfect 10 out of 10, half the market won't even look at it. If it gets a 9 out of 10, the remaining half will look at it, but tear it apart because they are looking for the reason that one point was deducted. Anything below a 9 is considered a failure in the view of many gamers, which simply isn't the case. This is the reason publishers fear trying knew things and stick with proven series until they are beaten into the ground. It's rather sad.

That being said, all the games I'm looking forward to are: F.E.A.R. 3, Ninja Gaiden 3, Mass Effect 3, Gears of War 3, and Portal 2. I think the term hypocrite might apply slightly here. :)
Wait, there's going to be a Ninja Gaiden 3!?

OT: Oh come one, we're not even 3 months into the year. We have plenty to look forward to. Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Portal 2, Metal Gear: Rising(I think), Brink, Uncharted 3, Red Faction: Armageddon, Batman: Arkham City, Duke Nukem, Infamous 2, Dead Island and even Twisted-fucking-Metal!

I think this is going to be a grand year for gaming.

Brink! I got to play it at PAX East in Boston and see this title being a fun break out hit. Can't wait!

Dragon Age 2 and Pokemon Black and White out already and with Mass Effect 2, Portal 2, Skyrim and a host of other potentially awesome games yet to come... I see no problems.

Ahhh three months in and the year is a wash.
Always someone has to do this, eh?
As said above, there is still the rest of the year to go and there have been some greats and goods.
Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2, Little Big Planet 2, MvC3, Killzone 3 isn't all that bad.
Still to come;
Crysis 2, Duke Nukem Forever, Last Guardian, Batman Arkham City, Infamous 2, Star Wars The Old Republic.
So come on can we atleast wait til maybe November before this, preferably December 30th before calling it?

The only 2011 release I've picked up so far is Okamiden, so I can't really say. Personally, I'm waiting on Alice: Madness Returns and Catherine. These two releases this summer are going to make 2011 feel like a good game year all on their own.
