What's With Everyone Wearing Headphones Recently?

Simple. The tiny little ear buds or ones that wrapped around were not obvious enough so stupid people would still try to talk to you. People just suddenly realised if its obvious they can not hear since they have fuck off huge headphones then assholes will leave them alone.

Well thats my reason for em anyway.

Honestly, it seems to be everywhere at my school.

And it wasn't a gradual change, either. One day, BOOM! Fucking headphones EVERYWHERE. Mostly Beats by Dr Dre or Skull Candy. Only once have I seen a pair of headphones there not of those 2 brands.

Also, how did headphones suddenly gain a huge boost in popularity? Before, barely anyone wore them unless you were/you're an audiophile or a late '90s anime character. Now, everyone has them. Hell, even I'm getting some (though it's for a piano class that can be loud as fuck, plus a possible online language class).

Not saying that this is a bad thing, just a trend that I've seen that, for some reason, showed up out of fucking nowhere.
It's because the full headset provides better noise cancellation than standard buds, which means better sounds and less damage to your ears. Quality is a popular thing you know.

It's because they're all being new wave and because convenient and comfortable ear phones are too mainstream for their sophisticated hipster tastes.

Holy fuck.

A piano class.

Requiring headphones.

I have a lot of words to describe how fucked up this sounds to me.

I will express them in a simple series of key strokes.

F*U*CNT%SHT^CRP#HEDS@!!!!!!

Keyboards are not Pianos, you S#U&P(I&DL#I^T%L#ES&I#T@S

I can acknowledge that computers can make some things better. Music is not on of them. I don't care if you want to disagree with me. For reference, Miracle of Sound sucks when he relies on computers to back him up. He is sooooo much better when he has HUMANS who back him up. See his lounge song for reference. You know the one.
Out of curiosity, why do you find sounds produced by computers inherently inferior to the sounds of velvet tipped hammers striking taut wire?

Oh Jesus NO! NO! NO! I hate this pop culture. I really do. I don't hate America. But multiple aspects of the culture need to die in a fire. Like this, this right here.

Kids, do yourself right. Buy a pair of Sennheisers. Don't insult the music you listen to by listening to it with Beats of Skullcandy. Unless that is you listen to Dr. Dre... then please stop listening to music.

According to my Facebook friends list, quite a few people who are still in High School spent about 900(?) dollars on headphones like that.

It's one of those things that seriously makes my heart hurt.

well, I have noticed that at my school aswell. Although it hasnt been anything gaudy or expensive like beats or skull candy, I've mostly identified them as the $10 ones from the store that sells cheap shit that'll break in less than a month. I personally use a $30 pair of TDK earbuds with the wire under my shirt and feeding into my pocket because the risk is far too high of someone grabbing the cord and running

Wearing large headphones around is nothing more than a fashion statement. It shows you're a "real audiophile". Bullshit. In-ear buds offer great noise isolation and superb audio quality. Unless you go over the 500$ mark, earbuds can match any large headphone design. They also don't drain your battery in 2 hours because they need a lot of power to move large magnets, they don't take up half your backpack, and you don't look like a car crash victim when you aren't using them.

A decent pair of Sennheisers or a Klipsch S4 (<100$) is going to run rings around most sub 300$ headphones.

I like headphones because they don't fall out as easily as ear buds and I got large pockets so it's no trouble to bring them with me.

I prefer old style head phones for the the retro feel to them .....and most of them have a way better sound quality than earbuds

Its probably the whole retro is looking cool again. gangstas are doing it more often it seems, cause they wanna show how they're still back at their roots and representing back like the did in the old days homie.

Personally, I would enjoy a pair, but only if they were <url=http://images.cosplay.com/photos/15/1520896.jpg>this pair or if I could make them look like that, but then again, Im kinda a loser nerd that way.

Well I don't wear headphones at school but I do when I walk around just to people don't bug me.

That's my opinion anyway.

I would dare say I think we have a winner here.

I cant count the times I have known I would have to go into a public place like walmart, and I will wear my most noticable earbuds (white, where I typically wear dark colors) and the funny thing is, I wont even have them hooked up to anything. To me its a social message. It says "You have nothing to say that is worth me hearing. Dont bother me, Go away"

Like actual headphones? The ones that fit over your head and cover your ears? Not earphones that plug into your ears?[footnote]Though, the two terms mean the same thing now.[/footnote]
I haven't noticed people wearing headphone much at all. I see earphones everywhere, which seems to have increased in popularity at the same time as the iPod, but I hardly ever see headphones that fit over your head and ears.
I wear earphones when I go out in public and plan to spend a while waiting on public transport or lines, but I use headphones at home, since I've got proper gaming headphones.

Mother nature needs to thin out the herd. Headphones and intersections are a perfect example of this. If only we'd let her really get to work...

Well, I use big headphones when gaming usually, cause I like hearing the footsteps of my enemies. That, and the lovely sound of engines and explosions.

While out and about, no headphones, I like to hear my surroundings.

Just music, I usually use earbuds or my laptop's speakers. It's usually just background noise for me when I play Minecraft or draw.

Beats and Skullcandy are the new "pop culture" tech items. Like an iPod or a tablet PC, they're the new "must own" pieces of over-priced, useless, shitty tech.

Also...
(cue hipster moment)
Recent? Pff. I've been wearing headphones for years. Before they were cool. :p
