I notice that with every generation of the PS3 has less and less features than the last one. What's the deal with this. I was finally going to get one when I heard they announced the slim but then i just got pissed because I found out it had no backwards compatability so I couldn't catch up on all those great PS2 games that I missed. What gives.

...just get a PS2 instead if you want to catch up on the classic games (they're cheap enough new nowadays). You can always get a PS3 afterwards, when they've gone down in price.

Well I wouldn't want just the PS2 otherwise I could have got one ages ago. I have some asses to kick on Madden 2010. I only wanted to play a few titles like MGS 3 and GoW I don't think a few titles here and there justifies my buying an entire system.

it's cos they finaly realized having the "best graphics"( i haven't seen differences in the 360 and ps3's graphics, though i know they are there.) sometimes means you have to give up on other features.

Sony desperately trying to claw some profit from the damn thing, nothing deeper than that.

It's basically Sony's current strategy to cut features as much as possible whilst shouting VALUE constantly. As expected they fool no-one but themselves.

What I really want to know is how much it's cost to redevelop things without features built in. It's probably not far off the cost of just leaving them there and not retooling an entire (section of a) production line.

Hmm I guess that's bound to happen it just pisses me off that they discontinued the older versions so that we are forced to buy the slim

You get what you pay for. Well if your not being ripped off. You complain about the price and they will give you one you can afford. It seems silly to ask for all the features of a $600 dollar system for half the price, don't you think? I want to make an analogy right now but I'm quite tired and would rather make no analogy than make a poor one.

Wait I thought that the only PS3's that were backwards compatible were the original models...so wouldn't this not really be news?

It's because everyone was up their ass about the price.

The only way they could bring it down was by cutting a few features.

I don't think the Slim has any missing features compared to the previous model? I think they might just bring back BC once they've stopped producing the PS2 (which is due for stopping this year anyways, since its come to the end of Sony's 10-year life cycle), since they won't make profit from the PS2 anymore. They need to do something about it mind you, when I went to Japan half the Sony-platform games beign sold were still PS2 games... oh well.

But yeah, from what I've heard the Slim actually has slightly improved bits and bobs, like minutely better sound and a slightly faster cell-processor.

Card readers. Disappeared same time as BC with 2nd Gen PS3s.

How about buying a second hand 60GB PS3 they all have backwards compatibility to an extent, and if you really want to you can install a different operating system as well, which you can't do on the slim. Just checked on ebay and there about £200.

This makes me happy that I bought an original model, except for the price and barely functional controller.
