If you ever played online competitive multiplayer, You have probably been called a tryhard once or twice. Basically a tryhard is someone who tries to win and acts serious about the game, what's wrong with that. I'm not saying you should be serious all the time when playing video games but if you're having a tough match, Why is it a bad thing to think tactful.

There's nothing wrong with playing with a serious intent to win, just remember that not everybody is there for the same thing. What I mean is, don't ruin the experience for someone playing casually by flipping out on voice chat or something.

Because many people, not all, play competitive multiplayer for the sole purpose of being juvenile to other people. At least that's how it seems to me.

For me, games are to enjoy. I don't get too serious because when I do, I release my rage, no kidding. So to enjoy myself, I just relax and play however I want and laugh at people who ***** about it. There's nothing wrong with trying but don't complain when people don't when you can play however you want. IT'S JUST A FREAKIN GAME.

Nothing is innately wrong with it. However it is wrong when people flipping a shit over their teammates for whatever reason because "[they] made us lose" or what have you.

Depends on the game. If I am playing some Team Deathmatch in Halo, it doesn't really matter if we win or not. If it is Left 4 Dead or TF2(odd that those are both Vavlve games), being a Tryhard is a good, if not great thing. What were you playing?

Different servers have different expectations. If you feel people aren't taking the game seriously enough for your tastes, find different group.

Still, it's worth remembering that the number one goal of gaming is to have fun.

Trying too hard in Left 4 Dead is arguable. With most of my experience, I've seen several cases of people breaking out into cussing frenzies and verbal harassment against their fellow players or something as minor as accidentally shooting a teammate.

But there's a problem with the term "try hard". Such a term is used too often enough to the point where it's considered derogatory. Most players will often use it as an insult towards other players that appear to have a higher skill level or even to disapprove of a irrelevant activity that the group is not partaking in.

There's nothing inherently wrong with that at all. Maybe if you over-do it I.E. Become annoying it might be wrong? Idk . . .

In common parlance, a tryhard is someone who puts in a massive, usually disproportionate effort. It's not so much that trying is bad it's that trying "hard" is.

Like the nerdy kid in every teen show ever who tries to be popular, as a pop culture example.

Asking what's wrong with trying after being called a tryhard is probably the equivalent of asking what's wrong with enjoying a Sunday drive--after you ran someone over and left the scene.

I was playing counter strike source on a hostage map and A teammate was yelling at another teammate for accidentally shooting and giving away our position.

Most people you find online will be that way, they just like to run around and getting their asses shot. Sometimes it's better to go all lone on the other team. Sometimes teammates get in the way. It also heightens your skills if you do that. There's nothing wrong with trying, sometimes it's just frowned upon by people who play and are douches

I'm always up for a little competition, but mainly there to have fun. So I hate it when someone starts screaming over the mic and complains how his allies are incompetent. I always go 'lone wolf' and I do pretty good. I also don't see a reason why I should do it his/her way, I'm playing the game for myself and not for them. So I don't need someone screaming goddamn orders over the mic, if I wanted that I'd join the army.

Never been called a tryhard before. Or maybe I have, I wouldn't know. I mute everyone since 95% of people on the internet say nothing to warrant a listen.

Apparently trying hard is a bad thing now? I do something skillful or clever in a game and then I get labeled a tryhard. Yeah. People have started saying it in real life, too. Dunno what this world is coming to these days.

The thing overly competitive people need to understand is that they choose to play the game like that. Just like people that are more casual in a match choose to play that way. A "tryhard" would get irritated at a casual person telling them they are not allowed to try hard. On the flipside a player looking for a laid back match will get irritated at a "tryhard" telling them they are not allowed to be laid back.

No one likes to be told how to play the game they purchased. No one wants to be told what to do in their free time especially concerning how to play a game they bought. Bitching someone out for accidentally firing their gun is extremely douche-y.
