From the trailer i was turned off by the whole good vs evil setting, the orcs were just some dumb grunts that served to show how awesome the noble heroes were.
said heroes were only beaten by being stabbed in the back etc etc...
only the elf sorceress got a proper introduction, solely coz she's hot
very cliche, very lord of the rings (didnt like LOTR either)

WAR was an epic fail. When i started, on release day, it was grand cause everyone was at the same point, lots of people for PQ's and whatever, but within a few weeks there was no one around. Since i was at uni...and HAVE A LIFE i didnt sit there grinding til my eyes fell out in a blooded heap. Yeah it was a change of pace but it was the wrong pace for me

Weird, I played WAR during beta and was happily pleased! And I speak as someone who's got an Orc & Goblin army in the Warhammer tabletop and wasted 2,5 years in WoW! 8D
Well, this, and my last statement came from someone who was in the hobby for 6 years, having a 1000 point Orc & Goblin Army, a 1000 point Dark Elf army and a 5000 point Dark Eldar army (40K), WAR dissapointed me immensly...
I still think they've done a decent job, I mean sure as hell it's not perfect, I can damn well say that, but I did get the feeling that the war was everywhere, as they promised all along. I also recognized it pretty much as the Warhammer world I always imagined in my head all along, be it from the brilliant images in the army books, or the figure's appearances themselves. Also kudos on the 1k Orc & Goblin and Dark Elf armies : D And a five thousand point Dark Eldar army? I almost feel I've been missing something not being much interested in WH40K now XD.. High Fantasy to me is epic, but mixing it with Sci-Fi is like a one-way trip to Meh-ville.. >:

Hard to explain really, but it never felt like I had control of my character. I don't really know why, but it just felt like I was making helpful suggestions rather than making it do what I wanted.

You could say it had no soul, I guess.

...and it ran rather bad on nvidia cards.
Why do you quote an obvious fanboi that's totally oblivious to facts and was only allowed in that video because no one there liked MMOs in the first place, except him and his WoW crap.
Sorry, but who am I supposed to be quoting?

war is really just a dumbed down version of dark age of camelot. which is a shame really, because i think that daoc was a premier game in itself. it didn't need dumbing down, and the balance between 3 factions is much better than between 2.

the resistance table especially feels bad; you only have 3 resistances to worry about, so you can cap them all rather than choosing which resistances to cap because you know you would only be fighting a certain type of players (e.g., stealthers would cap melee and poison resists in daoc, because they would be fighting other stealthers). plus, the tables for resistances and skills makes little to no sense; the mastery system is tedious and generally all round too much copying from other games rather than making something outstanding even more outstanding.

that being said, i would still play it if it didn't cost as much as it does and i actually had time to play it. pvp just never gets old.

You're not quoting yahtzee's friend from game damage?
I wasn't, but upon checking the video now that you said it, I feel rather stupid.

WAR is great, very well done, and I have every confidence that Mark Jacobs and Mythic will settle in a comfortable second place in the MMO market.

I prefer WoW, if only because I'm more of a PvE guy than PvP guy, and nobody does PvE better than Blizzard, but WAR is a fantastic game.

It's an awesome game, but most wow-fanboys just trash it because it's the first real competition to their game.
What about Age of Conan? I heard that Conan was WoW's new king or something like that.....

From my understanding AoC started HUGE and had a massive release, but after the first 20 levels the game turns into nothing, and a ton of people stopped playing.

Coordination had absolutely nothing to do with it. It's a numbers game - 20 people cannot take a keep defended by 40 or 50 people. Such scenarios vary by server yes, but the vast majority of my experience was on an open RvR server where order was consistently severely outnumbered in most areas, and often outleveled as well (since in an open RVR server you can actually fight one tier below your current rank)
Ok, true enough, 20 people, no matter how organized, will be anihilated by a 40-50 man defending group. By that time though, I would imagine people's computers would start to choke on the lag. Rune priests are a lag factory under the right conditions. The most extreme example of that I saw was where a rune priest put up a rune on the entire raid going for a keep and depending on where your camera was facing made the difference between 2fps and 60fps.

But I ramble; may have to pick it up again here soon, I miss the rapeage of my engineer and sorceress

Empire doesn't lack a tank class, they have the sun knight now

and I tell you they are a total pain in the butt to kill

a tank with a self-healing over time buff is just nasty.

When I first started there was no sun knight. Then, I logged back in a few weeks ago to find out I was spreading dirty lies. Not only does Empire have a tank, it's the equal of the Chaos Chosen - so much so that it seems tanks have moved beyond beating on one another altogether and instead they just run amock in the rear area trying desperately to distract healers/tanks/rdps guys - which just seems like the sort of thing tanks OUGHT to be doing.

It is interesting just how durable the tank classes are when played specifically to stay alive though, especially when it comes to physical attacks. 70 -80% outright damage mitigation thanks to armor, 10 - 20% chance to block, gobs of HP and loads of "attacks" and skills that provide short term buffs to your survival skills. It makes it all the more interesting when you lose your healers and know you're going to die without getting a kill so you just quickly pile on the defensive buffs, hit hold the line and watch people beat on you rather fruitlessly.

Well, yeah. Most of Warhammer Fantasy is taken from IRL stuff (Empire = Germans, Bretonnians = French) or from LOTR (Loren? Which happens to be where the Wood Elves live? Youre not fooling anyone GW).

I played WAR in the Open Beta, Preview Weekends and 2 months of retail.

I had a level 20 black orc in Beta, managed to get a Squig Herder to level 8 during the Preview Weekend. Then, thanks to my pre-order I could play the game 2 days before the retailers and got a level 14 black orc.

But then I noticed I didn't feel like doing everything I did in the Beta for the same character, and my Squig Herder was still a weak character.

So I created an Engineer, second weakest class (him and Magus, of course - they are mirror classes). After 1.1, he's the weakest now and Squig Herders are much stronger. Almost as strong as Bright Wizards and Sorcerers.

That put me off. And the fact that I couldn't get any ORvR, just scenarios, which was a really overpopulated Tor Anroc (can't remember exact name, as I hated it so much), where the team with most knockbacks and snares won.

And of course the horrible performance on a computer that could play Crysis on Medium in high resolution.

I might check the game in 1.1, seeing how cool class Knight is and I've also heard they fixed the imbalance problems and stuttering.

Besides, I love Black Orcs. And how much work game developers have put to make them the funniest race to play.

Who wouldn't want to use a skill called "Right In Da Jibblies" on a Dwarf?

The problem? Its made by games workshop, so odds are they are going to do what they did with the real warhammer in about 1 year and make a ridiculous markup to an already somewhat ridiculous price.

Yeah I came in expecting a fierce political argument, but it turns out to be about two games I haven't even played. So why am I here? Good question. Excuse me.
