I have heard a lot of slander towards windows vista. The thing is I'm using it right now and it works fine.

I don't know a lot about it but I've never met a single person who had anything good to say about it. Word on the street is that it's oversized, clunky and annoying.

Why?

When it was released, it was full of bugs and incompatibility issues. Most of these have been fixed now.

When it was released, Microsoft vastly understated the minimum system requirements that'd be able to run it, and as a result, most people tried to use it with very underpowered PCs.

It's very resource-intensive compared to any other OS out there, such as Windows XP or Windows 7.

Its GUI required a certain amount of graphical power that some machines didn't have.

It's not terrible now, as long as the computer's ok. Anything less than 2GB of RAM and a dual core and I won't use Vista.

How can fearing change be a factor when most people consider Windows 7 to be far superior?

I summed it up in a thread I made last year: The Horrors of Windows Vista and the Wonders of Windows 7 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.231817-Poll-The-Horrors-of-Windows-Vista-and-the-Wonders-of-Windows-7?page=1].

Here's what was written:

Ok, so basically I had Windows Vista Business on my computer for three years, and although I was skeptical about it at the time, I dealt with it. In that time I had hundreds of 'Not Responding' and multiple errors that no one else seemed to get, but I dealt with it. Then, a few weeks ago when my Hard Disk broke down and I purchased a new one I also acquired a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade disk and installed it. And....

[HEADING=1]HOLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![/HEADING]

The improvement in performance was mind blowing. My processor copied files twice as fast, games and programs installed so much faster and I didn't get stuck or get 'Not Responding'. Ever!

One of the biggest changes I noticed was thus: my computer isn't a beast, but it can play the newest games pretty decently. Back when I had Vista Batman: Arkham Asylum and Starcraft II lagged so bad I ended up getting bluescreen multiple times. Now Starcraft II plays as smooth as a 360 can run a Halo 3. My only conclusion is that Vista had so much crap in it that everything slowed down and suffocated my hardware. I also noticed that I have half the number of processes running in the task manager. Plus with User Account Control fixed to do it's job without ruining my life the OS runs so smoothly, while keeping you safe without restricting you.

When my friends ask me what I think of Windows 7 I say: "It's like they took all the bugs in Vista, (probably 8 phonebooks worth) sat down in a room, and didn't leave until they solved every single problem." It's quite accurate to say this as 7 has all the great features Vista did (like Aero) only they run smoother. Of course it doesn't have everything Vista did, Movie Maker 6 isn't there anymore but I did find an installer on the web so you can use WMM 6.0 for Windows 7.

If you are running Vista, upgrade to Windows 7 or suffer a significant reduction in performance!

Lets go back in time when 7 wasn't available... Yea, that's why.
Now that we DO have Windows 7, Vista just became the redheaded stepchild

This.

The list he linked is wrong about a great deal of things that it utters.

Then again, i can forgive that since it came out before Windows 7.

If all you do is walk, you'll never know you could go faster by running.

It's just dead simple: Vista is a pile of shit. XP beats it, but Se7en is the best possible.

Vista was clunky and ate resources relentlessly. Also it didn't help that a lot of under-spec'd laptops were shipped with it standard (bearing in mind, some of these machines weren't fit for XP).

The reason why it's so shite now? Because we have Windows 7 which is superior in every way.

I second this. Granted, Vista was a stepping stone to Windows 7 but you can't dent that this change was a long time coming.

Incompatibility WAS the only bad thing about Vista. It still lacks some features and improvements. The UAC is... well..

I had this problem with my PC(may be some other fault I'm not aware of) when I try to update to Service Pack 2, it reverts back with system restore. It's a quite pain in the ass. This error keeps me from updating my PC, which makes the PC less compatible.

But anyway, my PC(it is a laptop) crashed this christmas. So it's time to plan a new rig.

Vista was a stepping stone to 7 in the same way that the wheel was a stepping stone to the Bugatti Veyron :)

I liked windows vista, it did what I wanted it to do, I only came across one bug (which may have been my fault) and winrar works better on vista than 7.

However it did catch cyber ebola and would(edit)n't start explorer on startup, but that wasn't too bad because you could manually start explorer, although it is a pain in the arse.

Retailers slapped "Built for Windows Vista" on every machine regardless of specifications. So most people got a machine that didn't meet the actual system requirements that had Vista on it anyways.

That's strange because my computer has never crashed or got a not responding message and I had vista for a whole year.

Oi, this thread was already done like a week and a half ago (proof in my probation link down there >.>). Please try searching before doing a repeat thread.

OT: There's nothing phenominally wrong with it (aside from it being a resource hog). Some people just like to nitpick when something doesn't go 100% right and other people just like to jump on the bandwagon to sound intelligent.

We probably use them for different things. But I stand by the notion that Vista is absolutely slowing down your computer.
