usually, i end up being the healer, partly because it's kind of... what i do, partly because a lot of people don't know how to do it properly. kind of like it's the case with tanks; in general, there are only very few good tanks. though i don't really know why; those basic classes have their roles in a party, just like the different DDs. whatever.

but that is unless there is like a class that's just... different. like mesmers in guild wars. damn, i LOVED that class ^^ i've never seen something like them before in a different game
i guess i just like things that are not the same stuff every game has

I dunno, kinda stuck between Magic and Stealth, i like Magic-y dudes if they actually have some decent stuff, and not just spells and abilities for boosting the stats of other party members. On the other hand, i do like the ability to sneak around undetected and be able to deal massive damage and run away again

I go for ambush-effective classes. Like the Pyro in TF2, or the Medic in BFBC2. Something that can go in quick, do lots of damage, and get out again.

High dmg output, my main is an elementalist on Guild Wars and that's usually what I roll as first.

Kinda same in shooters, I grab an assault rifle avoid the head to head fighting and just kill dudes.

I love being the guy that you never want to lock blades with. The guy that will cut your blade in two, and you along with it.

I honestly can't say I have one, it really depends on the game. In WoW I like tanks; in WAR, healers, in D2 always dps. In TF2 I'll play whatever there are few of, but I favor the engie.

Not necessarily a tank, but I tend to favor classes that can deal lots of damage and take a few hits.

This is because I fancy myself a mage or a rogue, but when push comes to shove I don't have the patience for fiddly tactics the copious consumption of mana potions, and just end up stabbing people a lot. Or shooting them.

So, rather than an engineer or an adept, I become an infiltrator or a vanguard. Rather than a Jedi consular, I become a Jedi sentinel. And in Dragon Age, I stuck with Warrior on my first playthrough, because there were no in-between options.

I like to play a mage that can sword fight. Not a paladin, but more of a duelist who uses magic to enchant their blade or speed up their movements. Sort of the Red Mage theory.

Either that or a conjurer/evoker raising elementals and torching people. But uh, not an old man in a dusty robe, something a little more...flashy.

In FFXI, the Red Mage was a sort of jack of all trades. They could use white and black magic (though they learned the spells at higher levels than their counterparts and never learned some spells) which gave them a lot of enfeebling spells, while also using swords and medium armor. Really the Red Mage was the best enfeebling class because they had all the enfeebling spells. They also had their own unique spells such as ones that could enhance their weapons with elemental attributes for extra damage, Dispel (freaking vital!!!), and Refresh, which acted as a MP Regen (UBER FREAKING VITAL!!!). Honestly, the Red Mage was one job whose role in the party changed as they leveled up.

In FFXI RDM had pretty much had two jobs. One: Cast Refresh, Two Secondary Healer. You really can't use FFXI as a good example for that because FFXI badly muddled traditional class roles. Remember in FFXI, Ninjas tanked.

You forgot that they cast Dispel to remove the bonuses that enemies give themselves. How could you forget that Red Mages were Refresh/Dispel whores? Lol. Yeah, sadly you accurately described the Red Mage post level 41. Up until that point, I think the RDM was pretty traditional and true to it's role. I also really liked their Convert Ability that they got at level 40.

I'd also point out that SE never intended Ninjas to tank. The players perverted the Ninja into a tank by taking advantage of Utsusemi ninjutsu to create shadows that absorbed damage. I think Square designed the Ninja to be like an assassin or an advanced Thief. I also think they designed the Samurai to tank based on the Samurai's stats and abilities, but players turned it into a damage dealer. Just my two cents.

Heavy melee with some type of two handed weapon, or sneaky bastard, just depends on my mood. Either way i gotta have all that annoying status magic, I love toying with my victims.
