Well let's see. I played FFX and thought it was pretty good, FFX-2 and thought it was kind of crappy, FFXII which I thought was pretty good, and FFXIII, which I thought was awful. I guess FFX. It had the highest ratio of good bits to bad bits.

Probably FFVII. Even though I liked FFX a lot, I like serious but intriguing stories. FFX seemed silly wrapped in a thin layer of seriousbacon.

Pity that this couldn't be a poll, not enough options I suppose? (It's only 8 isn't it?)

I'd say its close between 4, 7 and 9 (I never played 8, but I've heard it was good), having never finished a Final Fantasy, the closest I got was in both 4 and 9, 4 I was nearly there I think, and the whole transition of Cecil from Dark to Light is pretty cool, yeah, I'll say 4.

I have completed X, XII and XIII. Half finished VII and partly played I and IV so I haven't got the most thorough knowledge of Final Fantasy games HOWEVER, if someone was to ask me of my favorite, I'd have to say Final Fantasy X!
It has so far been the only FF game I've wanted to play again just 2 days after finishing it. I also enjoyed XII and XIII no matter what people say about them. But the very best thing about FF X has got to be this scene.

VI was my personal fav. Not only was it the first Final Fantasy I'd ever laid my gaming thumbs to, (well, on SNES) it was also my first RPG ever.

Even taking that out, 14 characters which all have a (mostly) fleshed out story AND a reason to go after the final boss. THE Final boss, who also ranks amongst my favorite bosses of all time. A soundtrack I can listen to no matter what mood I'm in, a world that's just plain huge, a leveling system that's just fun, although admitedly I did like the Job system in V better than any other FF system to date.

well ive only played 10, 10-2, 12 and 13

but my favourite out of them is probably 12 because of the AMAZING real time combat, no cut scene battle sequence, u just run around like any other RPG, and fight there and then, with gambits and such.

i completed that game 3 times.

10 was amazing, but yet too epic, training was tedious boring work, but necessary for progression, especially just before u start fighting with sin, i never completed that game for that reason.

13 was horrible, and boring, and just so linear.

Easy. Final Fantasy IX. Not only is it the greatest Final Fantasy, science tells us it is also one of, if not the, greatest games of all time. Are you going to argue with science?

On a serious note, though, FF9 is a truly beautiful game. Great story (with affectionate nods to previous entries), great themes (how many games offer genuinely poignant meditations on death, memory, and living life to the full?), great music, great graphics (when it came out, it was probably the best looking game on the Playstation), and probably the most beautiful game world I've ever seen committed to disc.

That, and it has Vivi. That little dude will have you bawling your eyes out by the end of the game.
FFVI is my favorite. FFIX has this teeny issue of coining the term 'Pulling a Necron', and I don't mean the Necrons from 40k either.

FF6 was just plain memorable. I can take or leave the story in most FF games (usually the latter), and if I put a game like 7 or 9 down for awhile and don't play it for a couple of years, it's almost as if I've never played it before when I go to pick it up again, because the experience isn't indelibly burned into my head due to memorable characters, memorable story, or something else that would lead me absolutely never to forget it. I have characters from sports games (thanks to franchise mode and drafting fictional created players who have 20-year Hall of Fame-caliber careers with the controller in my hands) that I remember better than some of the stuff in FF7, which is plain unforgivable from a JRPG. Really, it doesn't speak well of the game's writing.

But when I pick up FF6? It's as familiar to me as watching a movie I love and have seen a hundred times---yes, I know what's coming. But that's the whole point. I picked it up again because I really, really wanted to see it again. And from start to finish, from Terra's rescue by Locke in Narshe through the exploration of Shadow's past to the memorable scene (you know the one) at the beginning of the World Of Ruin, still the crowning achievement of gaming as an art form in my eyes to this very day (though the opera scene comes damn close, to the point where if I have a daughter, I might seriously name her Celes Chère (first and middle) even though I'm normally opposed to that sort of thing), to Kefka's "self-help book" speech in advance of the final battle...

The game is an absolute masterpiece, still for my money over 16 years after its original release (so long ago that I was a senior in high school when I got it for Christmas '94) the best game ever to grace a console. And it still holds up.

Believe me I wish this could've been a poll as well. It would have been nice to have some percentages. However you are correct. There are only 8 options. I was thinking about leaving out II,III,V,X-2, and XIII because they are overall not that popular but then its not a truly open poll and some folks might get upset if their choice wasn't there. I know I'd be upset if II wasn't in a poll. So sadly no poll. :(

Final Fantasy VII has been my favourite game since the first time I made it to its iconic scene. Excellent story, great gameplay, memorable characters, a good mix of comedy and tragedy... it's a solid game.

But I have to give Final Fantasy Tactics some love. I have always been a turn-based strategy fan and FFT provides. A true classic in the genre.

X, because it's pure turn based without an active time thing, battles move fast, emotional story, and Auron. It's easily in my top 7 games ever.

as a whole, i have to go with VI. interesting characters, a compelling plot, and nearly perfected turn-based combat, and the leveling system was . however, i think other individual parts of other FF games are better that VI.
i loved the junction system of VIII. seriously, i haven't had that much fun simply going through menus in a game before.
i thought the plot of VII was the best in the series. there is a reason it has spawned so many spin-offs, and his name is sephiroth.
i really enjoyed the combat in XIII. say what you want about the other aspects of the game, you will not change my mind about the combat system. it was one of the funnest i have played in any RPG.

It's been a long time since I played it, but I'd say my favorite is VII. It was the first Final Fantasy to explore more controversial subjects like poverty and prostitution(damn Honeybee Inn) and I thought it was really well made. It must have done something right if it can bring attention to an entire genre and change the entire genre at the same time.
I liked IV, V, VI, VIII, X, and XIII, but V and VIII were forgettable, with the latter making absolutely no sense in the plot quite a few times. XIII had really good characters and gameplay, IV executed the theme of envy really well in its plot, and X?I dunno, I just like the bizarre world. I like a game much more when they use new worlds instead of trying to do Tolkien Fantasy or sci-fi space marine.

And as much as I liked VI, I'm tempted to insult it because everyone decides to worship it like it's the best RPG to ever grace anything in the history of ever.

BUT. At the end of the day, my favorite in the main series is VII, despite how incredibly boring it can be at times. Of course, my favorite overall is Tactics, followed by Crisis Core, which featured one of the most likable characters in the Final Fantasy series.

FF VI. that's right before it all went downhill.
If anything, it was just an exception in the 2D era of Final Fantasy. I, III, and V were nothing special, and II was just horrible.

Please don't make me choose.

I love nearly all of them, even X-2 I hated XII though and I've been too scared to try XIII for fear it would ruin my love of the franchise forever.
Everyone is just overreacting to the XIII hate. You'll probably like it since you liked X-2, considering it's directed by Motomu Toriyama as well.

These are the FF games I've played so far. (in order I've played them in.)

FFVII,FFIX,FFX,FFIV DS,

FFVII is a very close second, mostly due to it being the game that introduced me to the series. While I do really like the game, it's characters, setting, and battle mechanics; they are all pretty dated by today's standards.

Third place would be FFIV DS, I never played the original version, but I assume they are similar if not almost the same. I like how challenging it is compared to other games, and I also find it clever how you always have a predetermined party and can never switch out different party members whenever you want. It's actually pretty unique.

However, there are a few things I don't like about it. One being that the story is kind of simple compared to the other FF games I've played. Although than again, I may have been spoiled by the other games, so that point may as well be moot. There are also very few interesting NPC's. (minus Golbez and other exceptions.)

Last place is FFX, I do like the game; I love how during battles, you can switch out different party members and have them participate so everyone can earn experience in a single battle, and the story is interesting. However, there are several things that held it back. For example, there's the voice acting. It's okay most of the time, but sometimes it ends up being downright horrible. (Tidus and Rikku are repeat offenders in this case.) Some of the characters can by annoying. (ESPECIALLY Rikku. Dear God.) And most of the enemies are pallete swaps of other enemies. (Yes I know they did this in other FF games, but it seemed like they seriously abused that in this game.)

First place for me, Final Fantasy IX. I love almost everything about this game. The characters, the setting, the unique battle system that makes it so that immediately going after the next best weapon wasn't always the best idea, and the soundtrack. It's a real shame how so many people talk about how FF games like FFVI, FFVII, or FFX are the best in the series, while this game gets overlooked by so many. I've have just beaten this game for the second time today, and I rarely get the sense of satisfaction I get through beating a game for the first time the second way through. I love it that much.

So yeah, I have played all of these games over the past year. And I've enjoyed each and everyone of them. Next up for me is FFXIII. Hopefully, it isn't as bad as so many people seem to say it is and I can actually find something remarkable about it. I have my fingers crossed!

tldr: Final Fantasy IX is my favorite FF game. FXIII may or may not replace that. That's for me to find out.
