I figure somebody else will probably check off the more recent intriguing ads. So for old time sake:

There have definitely been more mature and more artfully done commercials since then, but a nebulous talking face and that phrase have stuck with me regardless. I'd call it a classic.

By far, the GTA4 tv commercial. There is no way to describe how pumped this made me for this game. The music fit perfectly, plus Niko's lines were awesome. "I'm the one who survived..."

I know it's pretentious and all, but I really, really liked the Mad World Gears of War commercial [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccWrbGEFgI8], if only for the music.
The same could probably be said for Mercs 2 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcJyCdbC08c], now that I think about it - except that I didn't like Mercs 2 at all, while Gears is still my most-played game.

EDIT: Y'know, I'm beginning to realize that the music in commercials is what sells the product to me. Good thing I rent games first, though, or Mercs 2 would have been a huge waste of money.

I really liked the Left 4 Dead commercials - I still stopped what I was doing to watch them after I'd played the game for hours. Something about the song in this one just gave me the good kind of chills about the game.

Anyone remember the Black commercial? I think in terms of being effective at conveying a message about what the game is about and being visually interesting it may be the best I've seen

I feel like there's another breed of commercial that's started to take off which is, as someone else mentioned, pairing a classic pop song with in game footage to give it a grandiosity it often doesn't have even within the game. For instance, it was cool as hell, but what does Jefferson Airplane's Rabbit Hole song have to do with Lost Odyssey? Less than nothing I'm willing to bet, and yet I love watching it.

The only advertisement that I saw on TV that actually made me look up and want to purchase a game was the Mirror's Edge one.

The "This is actual gameplay footage..." one.

But what I saw online for BG&E two got me excited...And when I watched the Fallout 3 teaser trailer a long time ago I got that warm fuzzy feeling like an old friend was returning to town to come see me...
