I was contemplating paramedic before, actually. I've always wanted to be someone who helps others, a 'hero' figure as it were (as someone childish as it is) and paramedical seemed the ideal figure when I realised I couldn't join the fire-fighters due to having poor eyesight.JoesshittyOs said:That's actually kinda what I'm doing right now. I decided that I'm gonna get my shit together and become and EMT, and if I like it, maybe become a paramedic.AngloDoom said:I don't think I've had it yet, but I can certainly see a certain 'that' in future developing if I go through with my idea of becoming a nurse.
I've lead a very 'standard' life up until this point, it's about time I put some time aside to do something interesting and remarkable.
Had to quit smoking weed, all that fun stuff.
The way I understand it, you have to take a semester of an EMT-basic. After that, I think there's a more advanced EMT class that may or may not be required. Paramedic classes are about two years of pretty rigorous schooling down here, but pretty easy to get into. I'm doing community college, and they offer the classes here.AngloDoom said:I chose nursing in the end simply because of the fact that in both paramedical and nursing I could help others, in including in critical points(such as a Specialist Nurse in Accident and Emergency) but nursing courses are funded by the NHS here, allow a broader spectrum of promotions, and if A&E work became too much for me as I aged I could always go into admin work and potentially double my salary.
Of course, I'm not trying to influence your decision - it's just nice to see someone on the same track as I am so I can splurge my thoughts on the matter out there.
Out of interest: in the USA do you have to go into university to pursue a career in the paramedics? In England we've started to phase out simply joining up and being promote up to paramedic, and by 2013 you'll have to have a degree to join the paramedics.
Well, consider yourself added, Sir.JoesshittyOs said:The way I understand it, you have to take a semester of an EMT-basic. My mom's a nurse (about a year ago became a Emergency helicopter nurse) and she is really trying to get me to go after a job in nursing. I'm not sure how it is down there, but it's pretty much guaranteed you'll snag a job.
But yeah, I'm in the same boat as you. I've always wanted to have a job that seemed useful to the community, and was full of excitement. I dread the thought of doing 9 to 5 in a cubicle for the rest of my life. Here's hoping we both enjoy it.
Ask and you shall receive. I really wish it wasn't so blurry, but I took for granted that a complete stranger would know how to use my camera.Matthew94 said:Post the picture please, if you can, that is.shadyh8er said:Going to my first anime convention this year. Momocon 2012. I set a new personal record for "Most Conversations Started with Strangers." Plus it ended with me getting applauded by a room full of strangers for asking Ellen McClain (you know her as Glados) if she would do an audio book for her husband's novel Dancing with Eternity. She said yes!
It didn't hurt that I got a hug from her prior (I have the picture to prove it if you don't believe me)!
