I normally use Celesia -Cell-ah-see-ah (I normally play female characters-why would I want to play as bland looking mc-bland man? They also tend to have nicer voices/voice actors.)

It's a tribute to someone I used to play alongside/fight/run into all the time who's name was very similar. His was dutch I think but I can't remember his spelling/name. Basically I took the basis of his name feminized it and made it sound and spelt quite different.

If I'm playing as a male I tend to use John Arrowfield/Arrowfeld/Arfeld/Arrahfeld

I also gave a different friend the name they usually use: "Lamentai" La-men-tai (femanised "lament" basically 'cos they like to grief a lot).

I usually pick a different name just because each RPG has unique names. It'd be weird if I used my DnD character's name, Kairon, when I was playing an Orcish Nob in Warhammer 40k.

Just for fun I like using names that suggest either extreme evil or extreme good, and then playing a character of the opposite alignment.

My current favorite name for a good character: Crukul the <Unholy, Despised, Cruel, Pernicious, Baleful, etc. depends on my mood>. His parents gave him the middle name "the" just so his last name seemed like a title.

My current favorite for an evil character: Sparkles Sunbeam.

It depends on the character I use.

I have:
-A vampire named Rafael Oscuro (Translation from Spanish -> English: God's Healing Dark) that I use alot for fantasy

-A Wandering Knight named Tenlo Soleran for a more realistic fantasy

-A (mutant?) above average human named Tone when I want to be more original (and for an rp I started)

-A trainer named Luke for pokemon Rps (psychic trainer class)

-An assortment of pokemon that mainly consist of a(n):
*Vaporeon (Arroy [Short for arroyuelo, which is Rill in Spanish])
*Weavile (Beth)
*<url=http://www.smogon.com/cap/pokemon/pyroak>Pyroak (Raptor)
*<url=http://www.smogon.com/cap/pokemon/kitsunoh>Kitsunoh (Jake)
*Absol (Tenlo)
*Blaziken (Alev)

-And the one closest made in my image (that I use rather rarely) named after me to which I adapt to the rp.

Plus I'll make generic characters if I think it wont last or I wont have a big part in it.

EDIT: Though if it just mean a video game, usually Rafael, Tenlo, or Arroy. If it calls for a last name, I just use Oscuro, Soleran, or Aquanta respectively.

Mine is the same as my account name here, which is the alias I also use for every game, and to sign whatever artistic stuff I make (like paintings or drawing). Sometimes, I may use my real first name, and my alias as family name if the game ask for it.

Why change what works, eh? It took me long enough to find an alias that was unique and that I liked.

Unless I'm playing a girl, in which case I name her after one of my younger years' crush.

I'll either go for a cheap joke, my fem-Shepard is called Cybill, or a biblical name usually old testament.

If it's a guy (typically some kind of warrior type), then I usually name him Dagron. It's what Strong Mad carves into the desk when Strong Bad is teaching people how to draw dragons like Trogdor the Burninator. It's just "dragon" with the letters mixed up, which is apparently what I equate male tank characters to...

Occasionally Dauragon as well, who is a bad guy from the PS2 game "The Bouncer."

If it's a girl, I name her Akyra or Kaori (from SSX). If I can't use those names for any reason, then I hit the auto generator button until something decent comes up, then I change a couple letters or add some based on whatever pops into my head at the time...

For custom characters (eg games like Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout)

Shaun Stormth (The second name changes a bit, it depends what type of game it is, such as Oblivion or fallout)

Character like Sheperd or Hawke, I keep their names.....dunno about making them custom made though, anyones other thought about this...

Gahars always works for me, unless it would be really conspicuous in the role I'm playing.

In that case, I just come up with the most conspicuously inconspicuous name possible (Like Billy Everyteen).

For male Characters it is always Dunta Coral, hense my name on here. It is actually a character I RP in both text based websites as well as Game RPGs.

If it is a female character I choose between two names, either Atin (Mandalorian for Stubborn) or Chertyl.

Tyrak.

What?

Actually that started out as a roleplaying name and turned into my nickname, so I'm not entirely sure it counts. Nowadays I tend to use a good number of different ones, though War and Vitale are recurring favourites.

Also...

i do the same thing i do every game for a profile name, i spell "CrustyOatmeal" and if there are character restrictions i stop where the restriction does. so for zelda (im replaying it again) my character name is "CrustyOa" and on starcraft 2 my account name is "CrustyOatmea"

i just love my username so much i just tend to roll with it. i think im known as CrustyOatmea more than i am my original profile name

Bartholomew....
Always liked the name.

And Trilby. Because it is an awesome, awesome hat.

For the legend of Zelda games, though, I just use Link.

It depends entirely on the character I'm playing. My favorite though, is Aelelia.

I tend to go with Klumpofiercus Fo(e)tus. It started as a joke-name on Warcraft III multiplayer, and it kinda stuck. It is of course an evolution of the age-old nickname you see to the left.
