If you hate Smash Bros so much, what are you doing hanging out on a thread aimed at people who don't?DexterNorgam said:Yea, not really though. It is amusing to me to hear people talk about this game like its something more than the fighting game version of mario party...AdumbroDeus said:Uh, playing smash even remotely competitively is extremely skillful.DexterNorgam said:Wow, people talking about skill and such in reference to smash bros? lol.
Just to execute stuff this is what is required in melee:

All three games have a large number of options, which each of those options beating a unique set of the opponent's options.
And the amount of reads/attempted reads per minute in both is staggering, especially because of the lack of true combos in both games (as in, there are few, not none), which means each link requires a read to continue.
Listen, I understand you've probably invested tons of time trying to hone "techniques" for this game but the truth of the matter is that this game suffers more than any fighter out there with the button masher syndrome. I can only see spending time tryin to build "skill" (lol) at this game as a complete waste of time because I haven't seen a fighting game that relies less on the player having actual talent than brawl. Its an irrelevant game on an irrelevant console.
Yes, I'm a troll, because I disagree lol. Are you in the habit of calling everyone with an opinion different than your own a troll? Nice name calling, enjoy your warning.Jailbird408 said:If you hate Smash Bros so much, what are you doing hanging out on a thread aimed at people who don't?DexterNorgam said:Yea, not really though. Guys, I found a troll!
Oh yea, I forgot, on this forum, if you ignore someone's "points" (lol) as not important in the slightest they automatically think that means they are right... I ignore those points because I refuse to acknowledge that Smash Bros is worth the effort it takes to argue "techniques" (lol) within the game. Its simple, unbalanced, and very casual. Take the game as seriously you want, but don't expect to be taken seriously for it.AdumbroDeus said:I don't know, you could refute my points.DexterNorgam said:Why would anyone complain about balance in this game? ITS TRASH, it doesn't matter if its balanced. In Fact, its NOT balanced because its Not supposed to be taken seriously.AdumbroDeus said:If you want a real objection, talk about how unbalanced it is.
It would be like complaining about balance in Mario Kart Wii... Pointless, because its not supposed to be taken seriously as a racing game. Just like Smash Bro is not supposed to be taken seriously as a fighter...
They really are the mario party games of thier genres.
The more you say that it's trash without supporting it properly (aka, explaining WHY it's a button masher) the more obvious it becomes that you know nothing about the game about any reasonable level of play and are talking out of your ass.
As a side point, who cares what it's intended to be. Developer intent is meaningless, all that matters is it's quality at high levels of play.

You misinterpret me. I'm no fan of melee either. Both suck and are weak casual fighters that deserve the same amount of serious attention as mario kart wii.Datsle said:1337 melee trolz.DexterNorgam said:Wow, people talking about skill and such in reference to smash bros? lol.
A good player will beat a bad one in this game aswell, so yeah there is skill involved.
No, it's more that you're in the minority here and if you want your points to be taken seriously, you need to support them.DexterNorgam said:Oh yea, I forgot, on this forum, if you ignore someone's "points" (lol) as not important in the slightest they automatically think that means they are right... Frankly, melee takes the depth of brawl and turns it up 11. It's also a far more balanced game, that while it has a clear best, does not feature MUs anywhere near as lopsided as brawl.DexterNorgam said:You misinterpret me. I'm no fan of melee either. Or you know, you could you know, actually consider my points and realize you're wrong. The fact that you've shown a complete lack of knowledge of the game should at least cue you off that maybe you made an error.
But this is the internet. Second thoughts? In my internet?! NEVER!!!!! I WILL CONTINUE HAVING THE SAME POSITION AS BEFORE REGARDLESS OF THE EVIDENCE!!!!!
Taking lessons from GW are we? Though at least he eventually admitted he made some mistakes.

Eh, then one of the SRK internet warriors (or some other traditional fighting game community), the proportion of smash-bashing is almost always inversely proportional to the amount of tournament experience and skill the person trotting it out has. For most good players, there's no real incentive to troll other communities.

Slow down killer, you're not making much sense. Yes, this game has some of the very basic things that you will find in real fighting games. We can agree on this point, what you seem to miss is that it takes more than sharing the basic traits of a fighter for it rise above the ranks of casual and just for fun as a fighting game.AdumbroDeus said:Exactly. It has the vast majority of elements the elements of the standard fighting game, namely things like the primacy of reads, a vibrant spacing game (especially true in melee), and many options with their own set of unique options that I they beat and lose to. Beyond movement, I barely touched on what games the games uniqu.
Excuse me, every one of your posts have been longer than mine.AdumbroDeus said:As far as debating, you haven't actually debated since you haven't brought a single point to the table. All you've done so far is create long-winded that equate to "na na na, I'm not listening".
Incorrect again, on several counts. 1. I didn't say I would never yield, I said YOU would never change my mind. There is a difference. 2. "Stupidest" used as a superlative is not correct, you mean "most stupid". 3. While new evidence can indeed change things, you have failed to provide new evidence. Everything you say has been said to me before and since I don't believe that you'll have anything truly new to say on the subject I don't believe that YOU will be able to change my mind.AdumbroDeus said:At least you're willing to admit that your perception rules, and no matter how much evidence there is against your side, you will never yield. Definitely the stupidest position to take in any argument, because new evidence can always change things.
LoL. Yes I'm a lost soul because smash brothers is not a real fighting game to me. Certainly people who make assumptions about where other people have or have not been in their lives are not fanboy lost causes themselves though...AdumbroDeus said:Whatevs, you're a lost cause, but there are plenty of others, mostly people who actually attend fighting game tournaments instead of trying to force opinions with no basis in fact on everyone they can.
