Mkay,
so today I went to a liquidation sale, and me and my brother were tricked into buying this laptop I am currently using. the guy (Who was indian or middle-eastern, to add to the sterotypes) convinced us this laptop was a current model (Current 9 years ago) But unfortunantly it is a toshiba satellite, which they have used the same modle for years.

The original price was 1200$, and he haggled it down to a little less than 400. He also included some wireless chip or something, which apperently in a couple months will give "Wifi everywhere" after my brother called his friend (Who is really smart with computers) he agreed to buy it as well seing as how he said it was a gamble to take the chance, but it was only 20 bucks, so he recomended to go for it.

But however searching through the computer's file history, no trace of the chip is anywhere. So it is not their. At all. I have proof. And the guy put it on the recipt. So in words I have proof that this guy stole from us and did not provide a survice that was promised, which as far as I know is illegal. I am very angry about this, and how my brother tried to dump this all on me.

so now I owe My brother 200 bucks, and I have NO money what so ever. All of my christmas money down the drain. To my distress my parents have finally caved into letting me look for a job. But with the economy like it is, It is unlikely I will in the next year. (Espicially sense I am 14.) The lap top's speakers don't work, and the only thing it has going for it is it's surplus memory size, and fast internet speed.

Looked for a quote on the internet- I would only get 130$. If I returned it, I would get enough to pay my brother back, and 60 bucks of my own, but I would still be out over 130 bucks. But however the speaker's malfunctioned in my possesion, and it has a 10 day "Shop" warenty, so I could go back tomorow and exchange it, or I could just attempt to scare him into giving me a full refund, seing as how he stole from me.

But how priceless the laugh's that came from this day are. It came with a "wireless" printer. Meaning literally a printer without a power coard. God, my brother, his friend, and me will never stop laughing about that. But god am I angry.
Oh yeah, you know that crazy indian song buffalaxed video? I swear to god allmighty that one of the vendors was playing that song with the misheard lyrics. XD

So what is your take on this? What do you think I should do? Funny stuff is welcome, due to how sad/angry I am.

My take, based on your OP?

Don't buy expensive items if you can't personally verify their quality.

That lesson has been implied so many times today.

I also recieved a perk "Fog in a mirror" which allows me to resist vendor charisma!

In Australia the law is, if you received a faulty product you can exchange it for a full refund. So if you can do that in the US, do that.

In the U.S. exchange rights are up to the vendor, but they can change, espicially with proper leverage (LAW ENFORCEMENT, preferable judge dredd)

But he did steal from me, which is obviously illegal, and I have proof, so I could contact athorities, but seing as how the sale moves monday, my time grows thin, and it may not be of great effect.

Hmm, I'd approach him about it.

Shouldn't of bought it in the first place, all Toshiba is good for is internet. Sounds like the guy who sold my sister a Toshiba laptop that was so old that it used windows 98, course that one had working sound, just overheated easily instead.

Never buy used cheap computers unless they're from a trusted source.
You were an idiot, and you should learn from this mistake.

That's screwed up... you from California or something?

Where I live you can get a full refund on faulty goods as long as you have a receipt. IMO you should try go back for a refund and if that doesn't work then go to the cops or something.

I'm sorry but the fact you were able to haggle down to less than half the asking price didn't set off some alarms?

BTW, I've got a bridge to sell, half priced for you since you're having a bad day.

My take is you should probably buy your things at Best Buy...or somewhere with a reputation. Enjoy that 400 dollar lesson.

In the UK at least you will be able to return it for a full refund and probably get some compensation if you kick up a fuss.

There are probably the same laws that protect consumers in the US

In my state you have to give refunds for a set amount of time, but restock fees are alowed, which they can get rediculos. Much like this guy's. I will probably go back tomorow, and maybe tag my dad along, who's terryfing nature makes him very charismatic in ways, And convincing. and seing as how he never breaks for scams, I would have liked to have had him with me in the first place.

Yep, take a parent who will argue and keep yammering away at him. If he won't budge then make him take you to the store manager, if he is the manager take his name and get onto head office.

They key is to not stop and keep going and make it as uncomfortable for him as possible. Companies want to keep the money but not at the expense of future customer. Just keep yammering away and you'll get it back.
