When a friend fails.

&nbsp&nbsp So today I called my friend to find out if he had gotten a program for me which I had asked him to get off a friend of his, he still had not bothered to get it.

&nbsp&nbsp Now for some back story. The friend which I am talking about, his name is Nick, has been a friend for a long time and I usually share stuff with him and stuff. Like food and drink or I might just give him my stuff and such. Usually the favours are never returned, said thanks for and stuff like that. This didn't really bother me because I didn't give with the intent of receiving.

&nbsp&nbsp A few weeks ago he mentioned he could a copy of CS4 (this is not about piracy) for me. Now being a student and working with CS3/4 on my project meant that I could really only work at school or at home if I was to get a pirated copy. Now with his offer I was expecting to receive that copy of CS4 somewhat soon because I told him I needed it ASAP and that my project was pretty much due in 3 weeks with 2 weeks for clean up, fine tuning and integration with the other group members.

&nbsp&nbsp 3 weeks have past as of today and after badgering him over the past few weeks I decided to do one final phone call today. He still did not have the program, in fact I am pretty sure he hadn't even made any real effort. He had told me that 1 day in class another student was offering around the CS4 .iso so getting a copy would not have been difficult given that multiple people had gotten it that day.

&nbsp&nbsp So now here I am about to do quite a bit of design work in for a professional CAD site using mspaint or paint.net and notepad or CSE lite. This would have been a lot easier if he had helped. I am no longer going to bother with trying to keep this friendship and am just going to let this friend slowly slip away.

Now I ask of you escapist, have you ever had a friend fail you so bad you just couldn't be bothered any more? What had they done to deserve this?

I dunno, if it were me and the first week had passed and I know I needed the two weeks I had left I would've spent my energy getting a copy myself instead of chasing a friend down for it. While I feel your frustration, it seems that both of you got backed into a bad corner which I don't think needed to happen.
I've had situations where I needed a ride from some one and they don't show up or w/e, things happen. I just cite as an excuse when I fck up.

My friend Tj buys a game when it comes out, talks about it non stop, and once I buy the game he moves on. Then, it repeats.

"On est jamais mieux servi que par soi-même."

I don't know the exact wording of that idiom in English, but it means: Never are you better served than by yourself.

What kept you from getting the CS4 .iso yourself if he had a habit of never returning your favors, much less doing you one?

I don't have a "friend" like that... I know that when I said I would get CS3 for someone a while back, she had it the next day on a CD with install instructions I had written on the jewel case liner.
I live in Austalia where net plans are expensive and I didn't have enough download to get a 5GB program, he had the opportunity to go to the classes he has everyday with the kid and use his external HDD, I have no mass storage device so I didn't have a means of getting it and he had never told me what the persons name was he was getting it off or what they looked like.

I still have 2 weeks until the deadline, I will complete the projects remaining parts tonight. I was just disappointed because this is the only thing that mattered that I have asked of him in the many years I have known them and they failed me.

From your post you said you told your friend you had 3 weeks for it and then right after you said 3 weeks had passed, so I thought you were burning the midnight oil and doing it at the last minute. Props to getting it done despite your friend, and more sympathy to you.

&nbsp&nbsp I am doing it at the last minute in a way, I have until tomorrow to have it done by the guidelines my group had established internally but we have a further 2 weeks for combining the coding for the site calculations, database connectivity and fine tuning.

&nbsp&nbsp In another 2 weeks we hand the project to the company to see if they will accept our proposal. I have some good news though, I found a copy of Macromedia 8 that I have enough download to get. The Dreamweaver files should still work with that version and it comes with Fireworks so making the visual elements won't be so taxing on my stress levels.
