When do you decided you won an argument?

I assess the counter-argument the person presents, and if it is not consistent with my perception of logic and reason I dismiss it and announce myself the winner. If they end up agreeing with me this is a bonus. Whether or not they repeat the same argument, or back out of the argument, is irrelevant. I have found myself doing the same when the person I am arguing with is so fantastically stupid and set in their ways that the argument cannot continue because their entire premise is unreasonable or unverifiable. Your argument is not validated simply because your opponent is non-confrontational or has difficulty articulating certain complex concepts the moment you demand that they do.

My roommates and myself generally abide by the rule "if you weren't made enough to bare-knuckle box, you weren't mad in the first place". With that over our heads no one really got angry at each other because 2/4 people never wanted to bare-knuckle box. While myself and the other guy would go at it and stop until we were putting our furniture and other belongings in harm way of destruction...at which point we couldn't remember what we were fighting about so we play xbox.

All arguments are pointless to me, cause I'm always right, even when I'm wrong, I'm right, so attempting to tell me that "JRPGs are all about emos" or "Scott Pilgrim is for hipsters" is like telling a wall it's a wall, the wall doesn't care, the wall isn't even paying attention, and it may just fall on top of you out of spite.

Short version, I consider myself perma-right, so I win the moment I open my mouth.

edit: also, what's wrong with repeating part of an argument, sometimes dumbass people miss things, and you have to restate something so they get it, or maybe that part of the argument is the end, it's something unarguable, like "Hitler murdered people!" you can't argue that, tis fact, but I know people who WOULD argue that, cause they're fucking stupid.
You're trolling right? Somehow your reply corresponds to pretty much every single way of losing an argument described in this thread so far.... without actually having an argument!

When the person goes into the childish state of covering their ears and keeps saying "I'm not listening la, la, la shut up, shut up, shut up" etc. I've noticed people tend to do this a lot.

Or when your trying to make a point and they just talk over you repeating what they said.

Which is really annoying, just let me finish what I'm trying to say then you can talk.

When my opponent walks away with a bloody ass because I just broke that *****.

More to the point, basically I win when someone resorts to name calling. It always happens as a last ditch effort to win. See US congress for details. Served.

When the other person is on the ground and bleeding!

Hehehe, but srsly. I don't, because most of the people I end up arguing with are arrogant dicks who won't even listen to the other side, so I just walk off and leave it at that.

My brother does that. A lot.

OT: At least online, when people start to post memes or saying "haters gonna hate". They've reverted to children, so I've no reason to continue talking to them.

Whenever somebody says, "That's just your opinion" or, "Doesn't matter what you think, it doesn't change the truth".

Fuck that shit.

When a person replies with an insult instead of another point against what I'm trying to say or when they try to bring some other factor into things to discredit my opinion.

You don't "win" an argument. maybe a debate, but an argument is just two assholes bitching at each other. As for not replying, I don't if a person speaks and as I listen my brain starts to decompose. For example, a classmate of mine tried to convince me that the holocaust was a good thing because the Jews hated god and were communist sympathizers...

When others generally agree with me. For example, I feel that I lost an argument over whether you can divide by zero in basic math, myself believing that you can't. I felt that I was right, and I still do, but everyone else was convinced that I was wrong.

When your opponent ignores everything you say and just repeats themselves or parrot shit they've read somewhere, you've won.
You may not have convinced anyone of anything, but you're the one that still has intellectual integrity.

When they have nothing to counter my previous point. Normally my arguments are logic battles, each of us countering the previous person's statement. If they can't, I win.

I also count it as a victory if they say, "I have won this argument." Saying that is basically admitting defeat for either them or me. And if they resort to insults or the like, I win as well.

Once the other side starts resorting to straw man arguments, you know their time is short

It's usually not obvious IRL, because the other guy will just rehash an argument or change the subject, and neither side has the conversation recorded, but if you won, your opponent is unlikely to voice the same opinion in the future. So, if the guy was always arguing against gay marriage or something, and you soundly beat him in an argument, you probably won't know for sure until you realize he hasn't talked about gay marriage in awhile...

When insults are used. As my Nan use to say "When someone reverts to personal insults, they have already lost the argument".

I only "Argue" with reasonable people and even then its more a debate.

When the person says "You have fixed my ignorance sir! Thank you very much." I don't get that too often.

Never. The person I am arguing with needs to decide if I have won or not. If they just repeat themselves or use various logical fallacies, I call them out on it and wait for them to correct their mistake. Nothing changed if the debate breaks down into screaming or what have you and therefore there can be no winners. If it is a debate for the sake of debate there are no winners.
Wow! We just posted at the exact same time and said roughly the same thing, contrary to everyone else who has posted so far. What are the odds?
I couldn't tell you, but it is always nice to see my opinions validated.

Next time say "There exists no such real number such that 0*n=1". That is literally the reason why you can't divide by zero.

I win at the beginning, by being right in the first place. It's a really good trick for that kind of situation.

When a person does nothing but attack the character/intelligence/personal qualities of the opponent.
