When does it become pointless?

I often troll the threads on this and other sites, but unless I am realllllly interested in the topic I often don't make it past 3 pages of posts. So I ask you the Escapist trollers, when does making another post become pointless? Sure some topics have 100's of replies but who is really reading them?

*Edit: It would appear I meant lurking not trolling, my bad. Where I'm from, trolling can imply slowly going through something, such as a trolling motor on a fishing boat. It can also be a flaming dick trying to start shit for no reason at all. I was implying the prior meaning

THERE'S ONLY ROOM FOR ONE TROLL AROUND HERE, BOY, AND I HAVE THE BIGGER POST COUNT

Anyways, I usually don't make it past one page of posts. Usually I catch the gist of what everyone is going on about, state my opinion, and leave.

Also silly you, trolling is for Gaming Discussion.

I think people here are failing to realize that troll as a verb has multiple meanings. It can also mean lurking around, i.e. "Trolling the mall."

I generally read at least the posts on the first and last page, so it never really becomes pointless because I'm sure there are others who do the same. Once you're no longer on the first or last page (especially in larger threads) I wouldn't expect many people to see the post. It's why I hate getting the last post on a page.

Sometimes, when I just scroll down looking at other people's replies, I lose confidence to write things. I guess it's the thought that I'm not really adding anything, that's when I just don't post.

Calumon: When someone talks behind my back. It's not nice. : (

WAIT WAIT WAIT!

You meant when trolling?

Oh, well...

I don't really troll. Not on purpose.

Calumon: I don't wanna troll! >.<

I guess I use troll in a different context as you are. Their are trolls that post random crap to get people talking about random crap... ie chuck noris jokes. But I meant it more as, I commonly scroll through shit and look at posts and rarely post myself. I guess my dork lingo is off.

I think the OP guy meant lurking more than trolling. Considering how so many people on this forum call "OMG TROLL!" against posts that are differing opinions, I'm not seeing why we should be jumping on incorrect word usage/definition now.

On-topic, I often find myself seeing topics that sound interesting and I have an opinion for, but if they are over three or four pages long I don't post in them because I would not be covering any new ground. Or perhaps because the thread has strayed from the original topic too much. I think that is why my post count is lower than it should be considering how many topics I read every day.

Do you mean trolling or lurking? Because I often lurk, and I don't troll. 9/10 times I don't post because someone has already stated the same opinion that I have, so it's pointless to repeat. Trolling is where you start arguments where there shouldn't be any and generally flame everything.

Don't forget Religion and Politics.

OT: I try not to troll on here. If I do, it's because someone was being completely ignorant to begin with, so I just do it to them specifically for a bit.

I'm kinda confused by your wording, but I never really have a page limit in my post unless the thread doesn't really call for a unique answer.

Yes. It seems the people on this site are quick to say "GTFO TROLL!" to anyone

OT: Well, A thread Loses it's point around the Asecond page. Because you won't get a reply past that, and most advice or News gets said by then.

Wait, is this a troll post...? Or as stated above, you mean reading the forums but rarely posting. In that case, you're a lurker. Don't call it trolling, that has some very different and negative connotations.

P.S. If it's the latter, then sorry about the report.

Are you openly admit that you troll? If you are a troll then GTFO!!!!!!!!

If not then, to answer your question *clears throat* trolling is always pointless...the end. There really is no point to it, other than being a jerk. However if you are talking about just rarely posting then yeah I guess it is pointless, I can't really see any reason on why you should or shouldn't stop lurking, so...yeah. Unless you are helping some guy/girl out then I guess there isn't that much point to it. BTW don't use the word troll...freaked me out for a second, I'd edit that.

Well he opened by stating that he was, which made me suspicious. Turns out he's probably a lurker though, in which case he should start calling himself that rather than troll.

He didn't say he was a troll. he said he had been Trolling these threads. 'Trolling' Has more than 1 meaning.
