Be it with a plot twist, or how good or bad you were at it, when has a game caught you by surprise?

Earlier today I booted up Half Life: Deathmatch Classic and I got 17 kills before dying the first time. I had only played it once or twice beforehand, and it was a long time ago. The game it most reminded me of is Quake 3 Arena ( or Quake Live as it is today), which I played as a kid, but I wasn't too great at it then, so I didn't know if everybody in the server was really bad, or if I was just that good.

I?m currently playing Batman: AA and I am surprised at how good it is so far. To be honest I?m not a fan of batman or super heroes in general and playing a stupidly buff guy in bat suit with his underwear in the outside dose not really appeal to me but this game isn?t bad. Not just the game play, IMO the atmosphere, the voice acting (tho Harley is annoying, but I suppose she is meant to be) and dialogue been pretty good so far too.

IN B4 BIOSHOCK!

OT: Ummmm... oh crap, now all I can think of is Bioshock. Other than that, I guess, HAWX being actually pretty good, and HAWX 2 being pretty meh?

Calumon: Some of the things on LittleBIGplanet are scary. A spider ate me and dropped me in fire! T.T

Probably happened many times throughout my life as a gamer, but the most recent one I can remember is Crysis 2; it turns out I had the same reaction as Yahtzee - I was suprised by how much more I enjoyed it than I thought I would. The trailers made me go, "Urban warfare, whoop-dee-doo", but the game really kept me interested with varied environments and engaging gameplay.

I have a couple.

Nights: Journey of Dreams on the wii really suprised me. That game was fun, cute and actually had a really good story. One of the best wii exclusives.

Hunted: The Demons Forge, it seems no one liked this game, but I actually really like I was suprised how fun it was.

Vanquish suprised me how fun it was. I would have never guessed it was that great of a shooter

Duke Nukem Forever, need I say more, I was not expecting that game to suck soo bad, I was really suprised.

Pokemon Black

It shocked me how quickly I got bored of it.

I grew up with pokemon and had played all the other versons. Black was... eeeehhhh.

inFamous 2. I made it maybe halfway through the first game before I lost interest entirely, but my friend lent me it a few days ago.

I must've spent hours on end playing that game, and I beat it within owning for two days. I really liked it, especially since I thought the original game was so meh.

Yeah, it seemed too easy to me... However the game that surprised me the most was Where the Wild Things Are. Seriously, that game was way better than I thought it would be, you shoould play it.

I was expecting Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction to be just running around blowing shit up...what I got was a lot more, and now to this day it still remains one of my all time favourite games.
