In your opinion, when is a game finished?

1.) After the singleplayer campaign

2.) After getting ever achivement and secret possible.

I pick number 2 because I am a completionist.

I think the game is done when the campaign is done, but I'm not done until I have everything.

A game is done when you have seen/beaten the ending of said game.
Should be fairly obvious.

If you choose to go for every achievement or 100% completion that is your choice, but the game is still done.

3. When it no longer works for some reason.

That's the best I can give you. I only feel the need to 100% a select few games, and that's just for my satisfaction. And even then, it's not 'finished', you've just completed all the programmers could add. Take RDR for example; I've 100% it, and yet I still play it to this day.

When the campaign is finished or you've become bored of it. Getting all the achievements is overkill.

For me, its when I can perfectly recall all the major conversation, plot points and alternate endings in a game without ever starting it up

Games are not finished, they're taken from their developers by managers. 30 days later, the same managers come back to the developers and tell them it wasnt finished and a patch is needed.

A game is done when it's 50% completed, and there is too much cum on it to actually put it in my system.

So, yeah. Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Souls, System Shock 2, and Half-life 2 are the only finished games that are in my library.

my rule of thumb is when the credits role, or in some games after the sequel hook trust ending happens

Normally I'd say that when you see the end, no matter what you did.

Personally, though, if I complete the main story and nothing else, I feel as though I miss out on the whole experience. I'd have to do at least a couple of side quests. I figure that, to me, it's complete when I do at least 50% of side quests and whole main quests.

And then I do a 100% one, if the game is good.

I'd normally say when you reach an ending at the end (as opposed to an ending halfway through due to decisions you weren't supposed to make or something).

Going back to see everything and get alternative endings is fine, but you've already finished it, IMHO.

When the campaign is over.

I typically revisit good games repeatedly over the years but it is rare that I'll go for 100% completion. There are often too many grind related awards to achieve which turns gaming into a chore rather than entertainment.

In the most literal sense a game is finished when I no longer play it.

Though I tend to regard a game as finished after the main story has resolved. Any new game plus or stuff after the conclusion of the story is just extra to me.
