Have you ever been really surprised by an older person's knowledge of gaming of other just, young people stuff?

I was shocked the other day to learn that my dad had seen all of battlestar galactica...the new one, then I found out he really enjoys Zero Punctuation. My dad is nearly sixty.
Also while on a bus yesterday I was listening to a couple of ladies of at least seventy avidly discussing Avatar and the future of 3d films. One remarked that she wish she had her own spaceship. That's stuff for the under 30's, ladies!

Ageist much?

The only older people that shock me are folks like Cheney, because of his deep lack of understanding and his utterly narrow minded perspective. However, I would never say to an older anyone that pop culture is for the under 30's. Want fewer Cheney's in the world? Then don't be shocked by folks yapping about pop culture: Encourage it for God's sake!

I was shocked when I found out my other teacher is a goth, and listens to metal

I loathe when old people rub their wool socks on the carpet really fast then... Oh, different shock.

I've never had this experience, really. Of course, I'm rapidly approaching the 30 barrier, so "old" is getting to be a different perspective.

I'm not surprised to heard old people talk about what seems like current youth culture.

Gaming has been around since what the 70s? and teenage rebellion and its associated music genres since the 50s.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love it! It just surprises me. I have become accustomed to people shunning anything that was introduced after they were in their late teens.

The only time I ever get shocked by older people is when they are politicians.

Pfft.

I'm 35 and I wouldn't mind a spaceship if one's going. I AM an older person in the eyes of a lot of people. Yet I can hold a conversation about Bakugan with my nephews, and beat them at computer games. I also listen to new music, and they listen to 70s rock...

A man who was 50 was shredding it up on Guitar Hero at Wal Mart's demo TV.

My parents are all old and set in their ways as are their parents but I was suprised to hear one of my good friend's mothers has completed 'LoZ: A link to the past' on the SNES as well as Ocarina of time and Majoras mask. If you have met this woman you wouldn't think it at all possible!

I hate when they taze me... damn it no one over 20 should have a tazer! It is shockingly appalling.

oh wait...eh, deep seated racism confuses me. But they were raised into it so I can't really.

I was always cool with my dad trying my games. he didn't do it when I was around though so i'm kind of confused.

It would have been good times.

Not possible. Goth=not metal.

Well, I dont really listen to older people anyway. I make a point of not doing so. Half of them are barking mad and the other half are telling me to pull my pants up.
Is possible, I've seen it.

Hey, I'm 38, and I want my own spaceship!

That said...no, I wouldn't be shocked. Some people can just adapt to technology regardless of their age, others can't.

I'd rather hear Michael Atkinson say those things.

I also want to refer to the video that got a thread on here a few days ago, where the old white guy beats up the young black guy on the bus then the fat black woman steals his bag.

like-wise whenever i hear my dad say fuck.

it's just one of those once in a blue moon things that whenever it happens i actually feel surprised when he does exclaim in such a manner.

i'd wish that my family would shock me with technological knowledge...
my grandparents aren't interested in new things, my mother can only use google and e-mail and my father doesn't even know how to turn on the computer :p

But how do you have time to play games between all those bingo tournaments?
