We've all had that moment, when we have a big event is going to happen and we unfortunatly forgot to stock up on health potions/mana potions/skill/balls, but we nevertheless continue on knowing we should be well and truly fucked. Through some miracle though we do it and save the princess/get told shes in another castle/shoot toad
What are your stories? Have you ever been in a situation where you should have failed but overcame the odds?
My example would be in mass effect, in the thorians lair, the only weapon i was skilled with was the sniper, my tech abilities woudlt do jack shit and to top it off i only had one medi gel, somehow i got through and sent that plants nasty ass to hell!

Once I was playing SSBB at a demo thing in a store while it was new. I set the computer to hardest to test the game out and I was being destroyed. Then a girl walked by and was watching me from behind me. I couldn't turn around because I didn't want to be distracted so I trusted my instincts and gave it my all and I beat the computer player at brawl with a final smash. then I turned around and the girl wasn't there.

I bet she was impressed though.

The "A paragon of her kind" quest in DA:O. I already used up EVERYTHING when I battled the brood mother. Now I have to fight a Golem!? That mission alone took me all night to finish.

In Saints Row 2 in the assault heli diversion, I wasn't paying attention to where I was flying and slammed into the side of a building, causing my rocket launchers to fall off and the alarm to turn on.

I managed to defend the car through two more stops, at a high level (where the enemies have no less than rocket launchers), with just the crappy little chain gun. I demanded my friends bow to me after that.

Nihilith on the original Half Life, I managed to save a game (my only save for that level) in which a giant green orb was comin' right at me with 4 health, no HEV protection, and a few Vortigants flanking me. I quit trying for about a year or so until I felt confident that I wouldn't go crazy trying to beat it. After I got back in, a took me a few hours to get the motions down right to avoid both green orb-ed and killed by the Vortigants. I felt exalted after I finally unloaded a charged up tau cannon into Nilly's brain.

It happens to me a lot in Bayonetta. I just think "I'll just wait 'til the end of the next chapter to buy healing items; I'll survive." The next thing I'm fighting something the size of my house with one or two healing items.

FFIX has a nasty habit of pitting you against boss after boss after boss with zero time to recover or heal. I was ill prepared when this first happened to me; I barely squeaked out of the first boss with near-zero HP and MP on my characters when I was rushed to the next demon before I could use a hi-potion or two. But I lucked out because one of my characters (I think it was Quina) had armour that nulled most of bad guy's attacks so (s)he was healing while the rest of my party attacked. I learned from that experience and from then on I focuses on getting armor and accessories that nulled "color" magic like fire, lightning, and holy and easily beat the remainder of the game.

Runners up include the temple in FFVII where my very inexperienced Yuffie barely defeated her overpowered dad in battle and in FFX where I somehow defeated the Monster Keeper's Abaddon with my party who was nowhere near experienced enough to reasonably take him.

I don't know, actually. I'm sure I've had such situations, but the only ones I can remember were while playing multiplayer in Warsow and UT2k4.

To be honest, we did stack up on every consumable we could get our hands on, but for me it was the second story arch, final mission in Aion, where you are supposed to defend some NPC from incoming waves of bad guys. It was recommended to do with a full party (6 dudes) with at least 2 healers.

We had 3 guys, no healer. I don't remember what level we were at the time, but since we always want a challenge I bet it was on the low side. After killing off the soft waves we just aggro'd a bunch of mobs each and ran around in circles, hoping the cooldown-timer for the healthpotions would hurry up...

Oh and one of my friends that did the Aion thing with me did something crazy when Half Life 1 was all the rage.
He beat the final boss, but he's computer was so crappy it crashed if he looked directly at the boss. So... "Meh, I can do this blindfolded" really applies this time! =P

Usually it happens through some bizarre glitch or bug on older games. I'm sure some people here know how buggy Super Mario World can get.

Most recent one would of been KH2 during the Sephiroth battle, 1 hp left thanks to abilities and his attack didn't register even though I should of died.

Frequently in strategy games. I hold out as long as I can, even though I know defeat is inevitable. Not just because It's possible I may overcome the odds, but I like to give as good as I get.

That'd be an interesting (Probably shitty) mechanic for a Cthulhlu game.

...especially since he didn't know what the boss looked like until he saw it at a LAN a few years later. So you wouldn't know if it was actually Cthulhlu you fought of he's slightly less evil (and emo) twin brother.

Two words: Leeroy. Jenkins.
Even though he failed, his legend will live on.

OT: Mine was when I encountered two big daddies on hard, no vita-chambers, In Bioshock 1. Don't ask me how I survived, I couldn't tell you.

Fire Emblem, back when I honestly didn't care if anyone died.

Let's just say I ended up with only 3 people alive...

Never had such a moment actually.
I have an extreme case of "but I might need it later", so usually I find myself fighting the final boss of any area/game with full ammo, maximum health(potions) and maximum mana/stamina(potions). Of course, I still thing I "might need it later" so even the final boss of a game will be defeated with minimal use of resources.

When I first started to play Pokemon it happened. Since my first time playing I have obviously learned to com prepared. Just for fun one time I sat outside of Pewter City and trained my Charmander. Once he evolved into a Charizard I went in and fought Brock. It was boring to train but it was a lot of fun to go through the game without any worries.
