When was mandatory school created/Proclaimed?

I'm writing a fun little essay for school about a big consiperacy theory that school is just a placeholder to keep young adults so that they don't run out being hooligans and causing mischief, too support one of my claims I need to know when the first time a civilization required school be mandatory. Can anyone tell me please?

I know something about old Prussian schools making kids go to classes by bells specifically to get them used to reacting to bells for life working in factories.

Not entirely sure what spot on the time-line that is, but it is probably fairly early.

I'd help you, but when I looked up "mandatory school creation time," just about everything that came up was about creationism. So just Google, I guess, with key words that won't make unrelated crap show up.

For some reason I have it stuck in my head that France was the first nation to institute MANDATORY public schooling but I'm too lazy to look that up.

The churches of the past would teach people stuff for free (with a nice religious slant to boot!) but it was not mandatory education.

First off what type of school are we talking about because depending on the country it varies. Second schools are a place holder. Like take Japan for instance it is in some of their schools against their code for you to have a part time job since you are supposed to be going their to learn what you want to do since some of their (US equivalent to a high school) are catered to certain professions and types of professions. It has been widely accepted as a place holder since people started to have families and I am pretty sure some of the ancient civilization schools taught proper etiquette which is now mostly on the parents but some of which is still on the schools to teach. But to answer your question about the year they were started they have been around since humans have been around pretty much since in Colonial America kids would go to school until about high school then go into Apprenticeships or start working with their fathers on the farms or going to higher education to learn how to be a doctor or something like that.
