Hits? Like as in most popular? Have no idea, a google might answer, but not interested enough to go that far. It could be fun to guess though. Fortnite is still in early access apparently, so that's not out yet. Can't count that. Umm...do pre-orders count? Cause if they do, I'd probably go with Modern Warfare. What fifa are we up to now? 2020? 2021? Years are always skewed with those. The psn store is saying it's Days Gone, but methinks it be telling sweet little lies, for how could something so generic ever be that pop...oh who am I kidding? I never bought any games from this year. There. I admit it! And I'd do it again without hesitation! *Phew* one less weight off the chest to worry about.

Oh yeah, I play only a few AAA games a year at most so that's not really what I'd judge on.
Neither would I, but most of time when people talk about hits, they mean the major AAA titles. Looking at the OP, seems to be the case here.
Aren't the most popular "hits" stuff like LoL or Fortnite though? Like, I play a phone game that has made over 1.2 billion dollars in the last 5-6 years which is way more than most AAA games have made but I don't think that'd count as a hit lol.

But yeah, I think we both agree such distinctions are a little silly. Gauging the health of gaming based on the health of AAA games is at best iffy.

Seikiro seems to be a big one.

Sony is slacking compared to last year, Days Gone was a wet fart in comparison to God of War and Spider-Man, hopefully Death Stranding can pull them up.

We got some other potential gold mines. The Outer Worlds, Shenmue III, Borderlands 3, and I'm sure some others I haven't bothered to look up.

I'll honestly be playing catch-up until mid-2020, I just don't have as much time to game, but there have been quite a good ones with RE2 and DMC5, Capcom is doing good this year.

2019 has been a bit slow. Only really been interested in RE2 Remake personally. It's definitely no 2017.

If both Pokemon and Astral Chain live up to the promise, though, it'll bring the year up.

No love for Days Gone. Really enjoyed that game. Great combat, cool enemies, pretty good story and characters. Also, truly beautiful open world with real time weather effects making it more dynamic than most of it's contemporaries. It almost rivals RDR2 in terms of pretty. I also really liked the hordes, seeing this swarm of zombies reacting like one big hivemind felt properly 'next-gen' but I guess it was a bit underutilized by pushing it to the later part of the game. I also loved riding the bike, espescially with all those zombies chasing you. xD

Anyways, favorite games this year were no doubt RE2 Remake and Sekiro. Both really incredible and definitely in my top 10 of this gen. Also absolutely love Judge Eyes. Presentation, characters, story; I enjoy everything about it. Kamurocho also looks prettier than ever. DMC5 is another spectacularly good game. Other than RE7 and Yakuza 0 there weren't that many games that stood out for me in 2017 tbh. Nioh had amazing combat but the game was a bit of a slog with too much grinding, too little enemies and poor level design.

Only slight disappointment would have to be Metro Exodus. Making it open world didn't really do this game any favors. Still enjoyed it as it atleast didn't overstay it's welcome but the claustrophobia and scripted setpieces that made the previous games so good(ie the actual metro tunnels) were all but gone here.
