before you start, i know assassin's creed (1-2) are in the stealth genre, but a true stealth game features along the lines of metal gear, splinter cell, theif etc...

why can't the gaming industry bring out a new francise of games based on stealth?

sure, assassin's creed games have elements of stealth, but the true stealth games are things like the ones mentioned above. entering bases, dispatching henchmen, hiding the bodies, looting offices for card keys and information... what happened? did people think they were rubbish and just ditched the genre or are they just morphing the genre with others genres to dilute it for other audiences?

I keep seeing rumors of thief 4 but not holding my breath. I have a sinking feeling it'll just be a sad mirror of what sells. Weak ass stealth, some action in the form of rambo'ing a bunch of guys and the obligatory sandbox world to run across rooftops.

Will I buy it? yes. Will I enjoy it? Maybe. Does it make me miss thief and the first couple of splinter cells even more? You bet your ass.

Hitman series? And Batman: Arkham Asylum had a damn good stealth element. Pity it wasn't enforced much.

I think a new Splinter Cell is coming out, I think that it's called "Conviction", but I have no idea when it's coming out.

Should be a new Hitman game this year, apparently.

Thief 4 is in the works, but no release date has been mentioned.

*Crossing fingers*

Stealth games are and have always been in short supply, and even when they appear they tend to be mediocre at best. Hopefully the future will bring awesomeness^^ (miss the stealth-multiplayer, used to enjoy that back in the day)

So it appears you just don't like Assassin's Creed's approach to gaming in general. This thread may be search bar approved, but it certainly isn't google approved. Splinter Cell Conviction is on its way, and that's the only stealth franchise I give a damn about.

I want to see a stealth game where you actually have to use stealth. There should of course also be a possibility of not doing stealth, but the gun system should be hard to master (you know, like in real life) and you could only take 1 or 2 bullets before you died.

I'm still waiting for new Hitman. At least an official announcement. SC: Conviction looks like it's headed for a Jason Bourne style. That's good, but it means less stealth. Hitman however is all about stealth. Well, you always have the option of killing everyone but I like to finish a level with Silent Assassin rank. Damn, Hitman games have the biggest replay value ever. And I always liked that you could just kill everyone because 47 is a skilled shooter. But as an assassins you kinda feel that you have to do it the hard way: infiltrate>assassinate>do not get caught>escape. And I just loved the notoriety system in Blood Money. You actually had to steal the tapes if you get caught on camera if you don't want to ruin your next mission. And getting into the monitoring rooms wasn't easy.

They're around, you just have to look REALLY hard.

Personally, I'm glad stealth games are changing to a more crowd-based dynamic...Like AC and Conviction.

Hitman and Splinter Cell are the only still-running stealth series I can think of which are good. Hitman in particular. I can't wait for another Hitman game, as long as they take everything that was good about Blood Money and make it better.

The best Hitman game ever would have the gameplay of Blood Money and the dark atmosphere of Contracts.

actualy i guess it's hard to really have a real steath game-what has happened is that many games genres have started to mate with one another if you will and become games with elements from teh different genres. for example: cod Mw,"all gillied up" and some of the other missions from Mw2 have steath elements. so does arkham assylum. in fact most games do come with some form of stealth or another.

while at the same time, stealth games have a decreased emphasis on stealth and more on action, judging by MGS4 and splinter cell.

the thing is, putting a whole game on stealth doesn't quite cut it anymore. pple will get bored quite easily, so rather than putting 100% into it, there will be action mixed into all that stealth. that's how it is.

Well there's a new Spinter Cell coming to PC soon but I doubt I'll buy it. It doesn't even look like Splinter Cell anymore. The ADD Xbox children have turned it from a slow methodical stealth game where you must plan your actions into a linear auto targeting shooty-shooty-die-die violence fest. I don't even know if it's stealth anymore. It's Sam Bourne.

I agree with you. There's not enough stealth games anymore. I think there's a new Hitman, Thief 4 and Rockstars Agent which is supposedly kinda like Hitman coming out but that's about it.

Oh yes, I really want to see some more good ol' stealth like the first Splinter Cells. I loved the series up to Chaos Theory, but Double Agent wasn't quite as good.

There was a reference to another Splinter Cell group/agents in Chaos Theory and I wonder if/when they're going to make a game based on that. I'd be interested in seeing a return to the roots of the game in a spinoff.
