Where are these so called "assholes" on COD

I don't mean offense to anyone, but I find that the better you are at the game, the more exposure you'll get to assholes.

If you're not very good, they'll just kill you, and their ego gets a bit of a stroke. They love players who aren't as good as them, because it makes them look better.

If you are better than them, or at least manage to out-play them, that's when their ego goes berserk and you start seeing the nerd rage. They'll rant at you for being a "camper noob" - even though they themselves frequently camp. They'll rant at you for being a "camper noob" - even though you're using a sniper rifle or LMG which you aren't supposed to be sprinting around with. They'll accuse of being an "-INSERT WEAPON HERE- noob" because clearly whatever weapon you have is the only reason you killed them. They'll start raging about lag. Basically, they'll just try to blame anything but themselves for their failure.

I mostly play MW3 on PC these days, and while I'm not great at the game, I'm decent. I seem to have stabilized around a 2.0 K ratio. I have good games, and I have bad games. When I have bad games, yeah, people seem pretty chill. When I have good games, that's when the nerdragers start coming out of the woodwork to complain. And it's not like I provoke them (outside of killing them), because I never actually talk in-game. Talking in-game always seems to get me killed since I tunnel-vision on my typing and lose focus of my surroundings.

That said, I don't think the problem is as wide-spread on the PC. I played a lot of MW2 on the X-Box 360 while I was at college, and yeah, that's where I personally encountered the vast majority of the stereotypical CoD assholes.

I've never been one for CoD really, so I don't have much experience, but my boyfriend used to play a lot of Battlefield and there aren't too many shitheads.
I don't know, it's supposed to just be Xbox live in general, and I've had my share of bad experiences, but I get the same on places people tell me are so much better (WoW, TF2, DOTA2, gmod are all places I've been told are friendly). I've been off Xbox live for years because I got bored of the stupid reactions.
I might go back on Xbox live soon when I move (AGAIN) and have better internet, so I would like to know how it is recently.

Well, in Modern Warfare 2 there were a lot of A holes. I kinda skipped Black Ops 1 and Modern Warfare 3, and recently started playing Black Ops 2 online. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of arseholeness.

Funny enough, I tend to get chewed out by female players either more or as much as the male ones -_- (and I don't use a headset. And by chewed out I don't mean made fun of, but more like they get angry at me). I mean, so what if I set down 3 mines, two sentry guns, and an AGR while running around like a headless chicken with a silenced smg. It is a legitimate strategy!

EDIT:Oh, nearly forgot. There is one thing from my exposure to Black Ops 2 multiplayer that is nearly guaranteed to send the entire lobby into a state of rage.

Kids. Either playing the game or hearing them into the background. My god, the anger and rage and A-holeness that is unleashed the moment someone hears a kid in that game...

In my experience, they all transmogrified into clingy pre-teens that pester you with friend requests and high-pitched, whining voice messages. At least some of them. The rest of them went to Halo 4.

Really? I played with Ghosts for a few days and I met a few douchenozzles pretty quickly. Probably bad luck, but whatever.

Mn, then again they aren't the kinda dicks who yell at you for not having a mic. (Looking at you GRFS.)

I've been playing a lot of COD Ghosts online as of late, and what I notice the most (outside that I suck at multiplayer) is that there are no assholes online. Where are these people I've heard so much of of? I'm not denying there existence, but I think the internet or at the very least the "Hardcore gamer's" saying that there are, are just over-boasting how there are homophobic teens or swearing kids or just plain unpleasant people. Maybe I will meet them one day, but as of now, I haven't. (P.S I've been playing on PS4, so maybe it's just X-Box live?)

Just be black or a girl. I get so much crap for being African American. "How can you even afford a Xbox" I don't know a job.

Same thing with MOBA games - I've played several years of LoL and a year of DOTA2 more recently. Sure, you'd get the occasional douchebag, but the keyword here is "occasional". 90% of my games would go with interaction limited to game-related things, maybe some light banter. Particularly in DOTA2, where I'd very rarely get harassed or see people harassing each other. But still, MOBAs get a shit reputation as the cesspits of the internet...

You know, I think what people are missing is that while games like COD attract assholes, games like League and DOTA actively create assholes over an extended period of time.

Though no harassment in DOTA's pretty easy to find, they're all typing/talking in Russian. Though DOTA is much, much more spiteful towards new players if you do find genuine harassment. In League, people will usually lighten up, tell the guy this is 40 minutes you have to get boots, stick with the team, stop building AD on Anivia and put your ult in the direction of the enemy team.

In DOTA it's two American assholes ridiculing the Vengeful Spirit for 45 minutes who is honestly trying to learn the game. What do you mean we have two Mekanisms? I'm the support, it's my core item, tell me to leave it out before I finish building it then.

Then they expect picture perfect swaps every time it's off cooldown.

You know mate. I can destroy you. Remember the time when I swapped you into the whole enemy team? Yeah. Fuck you, that was nowhere near a panic escape ult. I just was sick of your whining and was curious to see what noise you would make when you get molested by 5 people.

It's not NEARLY as bad as people make it out to be. Though I've heard it is better on the PS3, you still don't run into them very often on Live.

WARNING: I'm about to stereotype the hell out of kids/teenagers. It shouldn't have to be said but this does not mean that all kids/teenagers are assholes and/or adults can't be assholes. That said...

I personally think this is due in large part to Live Parties. Generally the assholes are the gang of kids/teenagers that are together and so they act like assholes to impress each other. With parties, these gaggle of kids/teens either hang together or they have no one to be assholes to (because the rest of us are in our own party).

For the PS3, not as many people have mics since it doesn't come with them. This means that many of these kids/teens don't have mics or their targets don't have mics so with no audience, they're quiet.

When it comes to the PS4, I'm going to go ahead and stereotype that kids/teenagers can't afford the thing yet.

I think the same amount of gamers play each system its just the Xbox comes with a mic and believe me getting your mom to buy something else after spending over 100 dollars is pretty difficult.

Like others have said it is really blown way out of proportion. While they are a minority of players they seem to be the majority when it comes to youtube videos. I have played all of them since cod 4 on the 360, ps3, and ps4 and its very rare to run into somebody like that. Its more common on the xbox since there are more players and every system comes with a mic but even then it was only one in every twenty games or so.

The nice thing about them though is that while they can dish out the rape jokes they are not very good at taking them. I have lost count of the number of times me and my friends have caused some little twelve year old to leave crying after he started something he couldn't finish.

The thing is, that's DOTA. DOTA2 has a much wider playerbase and plenty of new players, meaning that the pool of arseholes is diluted. I've rarely been harassed or seen someone get harassed in DOTA2. Even when it happens, often the other players will gang up on the douchebag and stand up for the person being picked on (assuming it's not over actual intentional trolling, which is a different matter).

Well, their assholery is too pronounced. I don't really see them that much in CoD (when I do play), but when I do, I just mute him. Same deal with Dota 2.

Never met any hostile or assholish players while on PSN. I've always heard that all the assholery is funneled on the Xbox because of all the shooter exclusives and the mics and the younger demographic. Judging from the looks of this thread that seems to be (mostly) true though I'll concede there's also probably some stereotyping.

Sony consoles have always been better about their online communities (while the Nintendo Platforms have the best community out of ANY online system I have seen including PC, Xbox, and Sony platforms) so the children are not nearly as large in number as say the Xbox One or 360. There are so many bloody children on those two platforms that it is honestly kind of ridiculous.

Really, it's about what platform and when you play. XBox 360 has more of the annoying group mainly because of the readily available headsets (system ships with one, and you frequently get them with controllers and even some games). Also, you will tend to find them primarily when younger kids are playing. It isn't just younger players, people will play during these times as well to both bait them and use them to get better gameplays.

I've played through every EST time frame except the overnights, and daytime in EST you find a good number of nice, friendly players that are out for some fun. I've had some interesting conversations with people, and rarely do you run into those trolling assholes.

PS3's voice hardware was more expensive, so you saw less people on voice at all, and trolling via text is a ton of work.
