Starcraft II
Dragon Age 2
Bulletstorm

Three new games, none of them require the disk to play. Only to install.
Anyone else hope this is the start of a new trend from Pubs and Devs?

It's because they've realised that the old "insert disc" copy protection method doesn't work at all. What that does mean is that we'll be seeing more DRM.

Eh, it could be devs finally figured out that even the time it takes to spin up a DVD drive to check if the disc is in there adds 30% to the load times on PC.

Optical media is SLOW.
Ok, hard disks are also slow, but until there's a financially viable alternative they're the best we've got.
(I use ramdisk for games that take up less than 4GB, but nowadays AAA titles aren't less than 4GB)

I always put the disks in the drive anyway, regardless if it runs without it or not, force of habit from years of CD-roms.
Thought I have noticed that Shogun 2 and Napoleon run a lot smoother with the disk in

Disc, as in discus, not disk as in diskette.

Anyway, pedantry out of the way, I do hope developers continue allowing us to run games without the disc, I've only noticed it on steam activated games though? Of course there was always the option of a no disc fix back in the day, but you never know what you're getting there!
