Do you mean real life or forum names?

My real-life nickname is... well... i don't have one, my name is one freaking syllable and rolls off the tongue.

And it's not joe.

I was in the process of signing up for XBL when my first choice was taken. I didn't really have a backup, so me and my dad were just bouncing some ideas off eachother. He came up with the idea that I could be Caboose's (of RVB fame) cousin, Bar-Car(like on a train). I didn't like that idea, but it did kind of have a ring to it. So I spelled it wrong and called it my own.

I've also been known to use the alias "Simon Belmont".

My real life nickname was given to me by my boss, because he likes Star Wars and my last name is Hahn.
Can you guess my nickname? haha

If we are talking usernames here, then I got mine from Greek and Norse mythology. Ares, God of War, and Tyr, God of Combat. That's pretty much it. Its my gamertag on Live so it came naturally for a gaming forum.

Does it bother you that you can no longer say you named yourself after two gods of war?
I know it would bother me.

Pole Boy was a character I used to test Guild Wars when I first played it. He never made it past level 1 (indeed, the tutorial part). Somehow representative of my life and the name just makes me giggle for some reason. It can be slightly offensive if you want it to, and I can score geekpoints by claiming it is a reference to Pole Position, even though it isn't.

It made things alot easier, but thanks to asshole internet mythology nazis, I'm not aloud to pull the shorthanded version anymore beause, as it was put to me so delicately, "ODEN IS GOD OF WAR NOOB HUR HUR! AND VALKYERIES ARE SO HOT! I'M GONNA GO BEAT MY MEAT TO TOO HUMAN NOW! KTHNXBAI!"

I had to think up a name for a quake game way way way way back in the day, and The Riddle of Master Lu happened to sit on the table next to me... presto, instant nicknameification. At some point that started to sound rather lame, so MLu for short. e.a.s.i.e.s.t. thing to pronounce, that.

IRL, i'm called something that people usually think is a nickname... so even people who've known me for years sometimes go "i forgot what your real name is".

I'm offended. I have never once used caps in such a fashion. (and it's Odin)

Oh dear god... I hope that there isn't going to be a huge surge of people claiming to know all about Norse Mythology just because they played Too Human.

You're projecting sir, I never named you or anyone else. :]

But thanks for coming clean. Bastard.

And yes, that would be a horrible, horrible occurence and would only incur the wraith of great Thor, wielder of thunder.

I stole my username from an album by Black/Viking Metal band, Windir.

Edit:

Most of my friends at school call me Chicken, Chicky, or Chickie D. Sometimes there were people who didn't even know my real name, as I'm not the most sociable person in my circle, so my friends introduced me to others using my nickname.

It was a self-given nickname that dated back to sixth grade where I made a stab at self-deprecating racist humour by proclaiming "Well, I am a CHINESE CHICKEN!". It was a riot and it has stuck well all these years, though we eventually dropped the "Chinese" part of it because my family is actually mostly Vietnamese.

Hmm... well I've had various nicknames at different stages of my life... My family still call me Rossy on occasions (argh.) In primary school I was "Rossini", "Sansineador" or "Roast." I was known as "Psycho" in secondary school. When I worked at Hyper Value I was "The Undertaker." My boss at the pub I used to work at, Pete, and his wife, Danni, called me "The Bird Sacrificer." My fiancee calls me Kitty.

In real life, my nickname is Dan the Man. People started calling me that in high school and it stuck.

I chose Beowulf DW when I first got on to XBL because I had just finished studying the legend of Beowulf (it was a few years before the movie came out). The "DW" part is actually from the initials for my first and middle name, but I like to let people speculate on what they stand for. One guy actually thought it stood for "Deadly Weapon," and I really liked that idea.

Unfortunately, everyone incorrectly pronounced my GT for a good two years. Then the movie came out, and everyone started saying it right. But everyone I came into contact with seemed to be under the distinct impression that I got the idea from the movie.

My real-life work nickname is Skip. That's a simplified version of Skippy which is what my section commander has called me since I was integrated into the troop. Apparently it's because I have big legs and I look like I'm skipping when I run. Skip just stuck after that but only fellow squaddies call me it.

As for MrNeil - well my name is Neil but you know me: I like professionalism :)

Xalmar is a name I came up with about 2-3 years ago. I'm guessing it's influnced by something, somewhere, but I can't remember what it was. I use it for pretty much all of my new accounts now because I'm too lazy to come up with something interesting every time.
