Well, when it's the same people, like the same person every week asking that, it sort of blurs the lines for me. But I get what you are saying.ALuckyChance said:Stupid =/= repetitive, and neither does it vice versa.

Why do you make it your goal in life to question people's beliefs? Do you like stirring up argument? Does it bring you joy to get people mad over whether they're a theist or an atheist or not? Am I a different person, an enemy, just because I believe in God and you don't? Please, answer me that. And don't give me some AthiestCopoutArguement0217, "I want to prove to people over the internet that their belief is wrong because it gives me a huge e-peen."blue_guy said:Maybe if you came up with a good answer, people would stop asking it. "a lot of things have happened in my life that I know God is there for me" is ReligiousCopoutArgument0751, it doesn't really explain why you believe in god at all.
And no, IRL I never ask people it. Can't be bothered with the following argument.

I have felt the strength of God. I spend a week praying occasionally each day, I get a week of strength. If I don't, like if I say in my head that I can handle it without God, then it's like I've lost all of that strength, and I become sluggish. When I say THAT, people respond with "Placebo" but I just know it's not. I've done things that I just normally couldn't do.They must know what happened, when either it's none of their business, or they just wouldn't care. I'm trying to say that the answer doesn't matter to them, the question "Why do you believe in God?" usually translates to, "You're a fucking idiot" and I'm getting tired of it.
Fair enough.PrimoThePro said:Well, when it's the same people, like the same person every week asking that, it sort of blurs the lines for me. But I get what you are saying.ALuckyChance said:Stupid =/= repetitive, and neither does it vice versa.
The short version as well isn't enough for some people as well. They must know what happened, when either it's none of their business, or they just wouldn't care. I'm trying to say that the answer doesn't matter to them, the question "Why do you believe in God?" usually translates to, "You're a fucking idiot" and I'm getting tired of it.
While I don't share your views on the existence of a deity, I also live in South Texas and am the only atheist in my school - at least, the only atheist publically. Because of that, I've learned better than to try to convince people.PrimoThePro said:As I responded to another person,blue_guy said:Maybe if you came up with a good answer, people would stop asking it. That's pretty much it. I doubt you'd like to hear my heartfelt stories where faith healed, because to most Atheists, it just bores them.
I understand. I think I was a bit snippy, and I apologize. You of course just want to understand, and this is a place to do that freely.ALuckyChance said:While I don't share your views on the existence of a deity, I also live in South Texas and am the only atheist in my school - at least, the only atheist publically. Faith is a very powerful thing. The question to most atheists is whether that faith is based on a real being. Not that I'm trying to start an argument, you understand.

It's funnier if you know that it was after a 50 minute lecture about the French Revolution during history class.
So sad...
