Where do you get your anime?

I have an annual Funimation membership that I forgot to cancel in February
Stuff that I *really* like is on Bluray, but that's seldom a first watching.

And the remainder (barring oddballs like Kabaneri on Amazon; why is Scum's Wish paywalled even for Prime members. GRRRR...) is... someplace else. Mostly for old/obscure stuff. And I find myself going that route for stuff that I only own on DVD, too, since often that way gets me HD versions, and disks are not exactly convenient. DVD really is just to say "I own this" these days.

If you are looking for some laughs, I can recommend "Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo" whose second season just ended. It's a great send up of the typical dungeon adventurer tropes. Another is Yahari ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteru, a love comedy with a twist with a very snarky protagonist. If you like heroines who solve the world's problems through intelligence rather than just firepower, give "Maoyuu: Maou x Yuusha" a try. If fast paced dialogue and artistic visuals are more your thing try the "Monogatari" series starting with the first season "Bakemonogatari".

Funimation. I'm suprised no one has mentioned it yet. They're the dub people. And there is a dual-crunchy-funimation service coming in the future.

As for what anime you should watch, you could try Black Lagoon, Jormungand, Samurai Champloo, FMA Brotherhood, Speed Grapher, Mushi-shi, and Baccano. Those all have decent dubs.

I don't know if it's a past thing or not but isn't Funimation kind of infamous for butchering the hell out their dubs by removing basically anything that might possibly maybe almost be maybe possibly offensive to someone at some point somewhere?

I think you have funimation confused with foxkids. Foxkids censored the fuck out of things, I don't recall funimation ever doing that.

And that sounds right too because I remember a lot of those censorings happening due to morning cartoons, which I would imagine a studio called FoxKids would be doing rather than Funimation...

Yeah, Funimation dubbed Prison School. And that... is possibly offensive. The only real drawbacks to Funimation: subscription fee, and if you run across a voice actor you don't like... that actor will dub something else you're watching down the line.

I've been using Crunchyroll but everything they've got is subbed where I'd prefer dubbed. Also, their commercial spots are very weirdly placed (or maybe it's just this show but the commercials pop in mid-sentence every freaking time it feels like).

It certainly works, I'm just kind of hoping that something better exists.

Only a certain percentage of shows get a dub in the first place, and dubs usually don't happen until BR release so for any really recent shows subs will be your only choice no matter the source unless you want to wait six months to a year after it's screened. Wow that was an awkward sentence. I understand your preference for dubs, but you'll need to get used to subs at least part of the time.
Crunchyroll's ads are annoying, especially since they're not placed by hand but are automatically inserted at points that are a particular percentage of the way through the show. If you decide you like the site then their monthly subscription is pretty cheap and both gets rid of the ads and lets you stream in HD. As for anything that you can't find on Crunchyroll, all I can say is "what sound does a Japanese cat make?"

Honestly, that's how I got into anime. I watched all the dubs of shows I was interested in, until I hit the point where only subs were available.

Outlaw Star(may not be able to stream)

I was not able to find Outlaw Star streaming on any legal site (and I did not try for less-than-legal means) and eventually bought the series used off of amazon (cost about $50).

You also might enjoy Blue Exorcist, but I suggest stopping about halfway through the first season, the skipping to the second season(the rest of the first season was filler and has nothing to do with the general story).

When did Blue Exorcist get a second season? As far as I know it only had the one 26 episode run (shown on Adult Sim/Toonami sometime in the last few years. Or did it have two shorter seasons?

Yeah, we had to buy the box set ourselves. Thats why I suggested it might not be streamable. It could be in the future though, as some shows get picked up on occasion.

As for Blue Exorcist, it's second season started this last anime season, and in fact, just ended not terribly long ago. Here is a link to it in crunchyroll if you are interested.

As to watching:

I get my anime mostly from buying physical copies. I've got hundreds of the damn things, and have evolved from getting the S.A.V.E. and standard edition before to now getting some of Sentai's limited editions and even two Japanese imports (both have native English subs).

As for streaming: Netflix censors their stuff, Crunchy lowers the quality after 2 days of airing, and Funimation is only really good for its library or if you want to see currently airing anime dubbed.

Are you guys sure about Netflix? Attack on Titan was a violent mess and High School of the Dead had its unGodly amount of uncomfortable fan service completely in tact (or at least I'm assuming since unless there was just plain hentai in there, HSotD couldn't have added too much more)...

I'd assume you're USA, if you not it may be different.
-Also, it's been a few years since I streamed anime due to my crappy net. If I can't download or physically own it, it's too damn hard to stream anything. Yay for small town decent speed/horrid streaming net.

The first time I watched Blue Submarine No.6 (not a 'perverted' anime by any stretch) Netflix had the Cartoon Network version.
So...lots of redrawn/edited 'mermaids'.

Crunchyroll. Not exactly comprehensive (Where the fuck is Lucky Star, K-On!, Gurren Lagann, Angel Beats, etc.), but it has plenty of good stuff regardless, and ?40 a year is pretty reasonable. Aside from that, friends' DVDs.

Netlfix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, and AnimeHaven are my primary sources. If it's something really abstract that someone recommends to me and I can't find it on any of those, I have more... creative ways of getting them.
Edit: I mostly just watch what I think looks good, or what other people have told me to check out. Just read up on some of the shows you're thinking about watching. As far as recommendations go, I'd have to say Overlord, or Code Geass if you haven't already watched it. I've also been getting into Flying Witch and Berserk, they seem pretty good so far.

I pretty much watch Crunchyroll exclusivly. Ever since they teamed up with Funimation I've had no need to use fansubs at all, with the exception of the odd OVA.

That's 4kids. Nothing beats a jelly doughnut.

I use Hulu for mine. Though I mainly watch Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, which is on there. Also Fist of the North Star, which is pretty much Mad Max if Bruce Lee was the star instead of Mel Gibson/Tom Hardy.

I buy most of my stuff via Rightstuf.com, fairly wide selection of blu-rays and a reasonable price. Having said that, I know it's not what you mean. XD I'm probably the last person on earth who actually collects anime as a physical medium.

Sadly, there's no real rhyme or reason to where I watch anime that hasn't come out yet. if it's big enough for crunchyroll I watch it there, and if not I just google around for a place that streams it.

If OP still wants an anime recommendation, I just went to see Koe no Katachi last night and wow. An instant favourite for me, apparently it's already screened in the US so look out for the bluray or something. I'm still shaken up by it.

This sucks. BakaBT was great for old anime.

I ended up going with Crunchy Roll (and then I also already have Netflix and Amazon so most everything I am after I can somehow get access to). Paying for a third service is mildly depressing but I figure it's only $7 a month so I'll take that hit and use the recommendations I've seen in this thread to build up a library.
