'Most of the pollination for more than 90 commercial crops grown throughout the United States is provided by Apis mellifera, the honey bee, and the value from the pollination to agricultural output in the country is estimated at $14.6bn (£8bn) annually. In Britain alone, pollination by bees of a suite of just 10 crops, ranging from apples and pears to oilseed rape, was calculated to be worth £165m per annum in 2007. ' - The Independent.

What do you think is happening to the bees and what will the consequences be?

I don't know.

The consequences of them dying out? Less pollination obviously, which will lead to less crops. We'll just have to use the many other ways we have to pollinate crops.

Iirc there was some sort of virus/fungus/bad thing (swine flu for bees) killing off hives, might be completely of track with this but I am sure I read something along those lines.

Well lack of bee's would mean a lack of pollination of wild flowers in general so the countryside would be a bit sparser, as it would have less to sustain all them critters...

I hate bees. But we need 'em. SAVE THE BEES! Also, make them unable to fly into ears. The sudden buzz in your ear is very startling.

What will happen? More famine than there already is, higher food prices, economical and political strain due to a decrease in food output, etc...

What can we do? While there are other bugs that pollinate crops, none do so on such a scale or as efficient to production as bees. even the artifical alternative methods are extremely time consuming and not cost effective in the long term. So about all we can do is hope for the best, plan for the worst.

I think these coming decades will realy test the ablity of humanity to adapt as a species.

The honey bees are actually aliens, and they're going back to their homeworld.

Well that's what the Doctor told me...

Bumble Bees shall take over.

We'll all go deaf from the incessant rumble of their loud, loud wings.

despite the fact one stung me today cause it flew into my face, i think we should save them to keep growing stuff and have honey.
if they die out well we'll get some people to do it but it'll cost more money meaning higher prices and i like my money so save the bee

i'll tell you where they are going; my house. in the five years since i have lived here the population of honey bees has gone from zero to not being able to take a step without getting swarmed, and my property is not exactly small (80 something acres)

They're disappearing and there will be no more honey.
No more honey? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIVX1s]

Anyway yeah, that is a good sum up of what's happening.

I don't care about bees stinging or whatever, but I do think that the England would be different without them.

Save the bees!
