I get this feeling that In the future as more and more games are connected to the internet there is generally less focus on single player and more on multiplayer

multiplayer might be fun and all but I think the single player experience is better

and then mabye we are moving towards the whole thing like with assasins creed 2 where you have to be constantly coneccted to play, I mean cmon people! not everyone is blessed with a good interent connection

Mabye its easyer and more profitble for them to focus more on multiplayer but all this crap with having to be connected to the internet...I don't know what do you guys think? am I over eacting?

on an unrelated note its my birthday today, I went and got Inception on DVD and on a whim decided to get the TRON sountrack its AWSOME!

Inception is a good movie, good buy.

And yes, the focus on multiplayer is something that bugs me to.

But sadly, I don't think that trend will change - it's easier to design multiplayer than a robust single player experience and to boot, the instant gratification crowd get what they want second after getting into the lobby with multiplayer, while getting immersed in a good single player game does take a bit more time.

Yes, this bugs me too. Mostly because the I don't want to play multiplayer, I don't want to play with a bunch of dickheads I don't know, see Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory.

I'm not too worried really. Many games still focus on single player. Many more than focus on multiplayer. And I don't see that number dwindling.

The single player experience uses content generated by the developers. The multiplayer experience uses more content generated by other players. The differences should be obvious.

A good human can provide more dynamic writing, but most humans online will just type "gold plz" or "lol".

A well-written NPC is not as dynamic as a human counterpart, but they can be relied on for some consistent degree of quality.

A good human opponent is challenging, innovative, and flexible. Most humans online use bunny-hopping and camping to get ahead.

A good AI opponent cannot outsmart his human foe, but he can be relied on for the same level of skill every day.

I completely agree, I hate that games are relying more on multiplayer rather than a good single player campaign. Like someone else said, I don't generally like to play multiplayer unless it's local (the only exception being Mabinogi)

Isn't the tron movie soundtrack all Daft Punk?

OT: If i get a laptop I won't be able to play many games since a good deal are all Online Mandatory or at least getting there. Like SC2. Needing to log into battle net to play single player is the stupidest thing i heard. Sure when another game does something like that people freak but blizzard does it and others are happy they are battling pirates.
Not entirely I think they collaborated with hans zimmer so there is alot of orchastral stuff on there reminicant of the batman soundtrack (his style in other words)

It's not where they're headed, they're already there. It started back in 1999 With Unreal Tournament- the first sucessful game to be sold entirely on it's multiplayer. It didn't really have a singleplayer at all, just a series of instant action bot matches.

Then consoles went online, and it was all about the online multiplayer. singleplayer started getting shorter, journalists lamented any game's lack of multiplayer whether it needed it or not, and split screen lost it's dominance.

Then bots disappeared, and multiplayer needeing every player to have a copy of a game came in, forcing players to have their own game and often own console if they even wanted to try multiplayer.

Now we have games that are all about the graphics and multiplayer, with singleplayer campaigns reduced to 6 hours in some cases, and quite often multiplayer only offered through some other service that could be shut down at any moment. So yeah- it's not coming. It's already here.

No, you're thinking of Interstellar 5555.

is that a movie?

and I see your point though we have had quite a few good single player games over the years and a few more to come hopefully....though they did mention multiplayer in dead space two which is worrying though I think it might only be co-op or somthing

I misspelt it- Interstella 5555 is a movie- the "visual realisation" so they call it- of Daft Punk's Discovery album. Basically it's a feature length series of back to back music videos based on each song in turn, with a story unfolding all along without any dialogue as it goes, so the only audio you hear is the music.

What's really interesting is that while it looks like an anime made in the 1970s, it was really made in 2003.
