A preview of Windows 8 has been released. It was......interesting, to say the least.

I don't approve of the new tile based design, but my opinion isn't the subject of the thread.

What I want to know is where Windows is going, and what influenced the design teams the most. Their mobile phone team? Competitors? Desire to innovate? Yunno, your opinion on those topics.

The team-that-only-uses-iPhones-and-tried-to-take-some-of-its-success-for-themselves team.

Why does Microsoft keep trying to obviously and badly rip off other peoples' products when all they really need to do is brush up their own ones a bit.

(Assuming that you saw the same video as I did) The bit that summarises the entire product is when the speaker had to switch back to the Windows 7 interface when he wanted to access his files. The fact that this new product relies on the old one to actually do anything useful is very telling...

(Also, this got posted here yesterday in a different thread)

Down the shitter.

But seriously, they need to stamp out all traces of 'trusted computing' and other such kernel-level authoritarian arsehattery before I'll even begin to consider trusting them again.

(Is running Windows 7 because he's a hypocrite)

OH MY GOD.
I could not hate more where this is going. Microsoft should just say that they're giving up on Windows and are only going to do Word and Xbox. They're trying to make 8 like their phone OS, which is shit.

This is what Apple is trying to do now, make their GUI more user friendly by combining it with iOS. It sucks.

Computing is like religion: do not touch the Apple.

probably people who,s only experience with technology is iOS.
also people who though the classic design (as we know it) is to complicated.
I am going to stick with 7 and hope updating to 8 isn't mandatory (or a option that allows me to return to classic).

I was with you Microsoft. I really was. In a sea of Apple drones and Linux fanatics, I was loyal. I supported you. I went to the bat for you, every single time. When Vista came out, I claimed it was just transitional flailing as you lost the Gates. When 7 came out, I was put off by the slickness, and lack of professional appearance, but I still I supported you. When you came out with an odd tile based phone, I shrugged and said it just required getting used to.

But I'm done now. The tile based OS disgusted me. You're Apple like 'inspiration' board horrified me. But you lost the the absolute second you called a tile an 'App.' Apps are for phone. APPLICATIONS are for full scaled Operating Systems.

So, Microsoft, you can burn in hell now. Burn. In. Fucking. Hell. Fire cannot cleanse this travesty, modern medicine cannot heal this wound, and morphine cannot dull the sting of your betrayal. I, a full grown man, weep over what you have become.

Heh... nice.

OT: I'm still using XP, does that tell you anything about where I think windows is going? Basically I have seen no worthwhile improvements, and this latest iteration appears to be going for the accessibility route, which is where Apple excels. Windows should stick to being the more "professional" operating system, which might be a little more complicated than Apple's but works more easily once you know how to use it. Rather than try to mimic their competitor, Microsoft should focus on improving the strengths of their own operating systems.

Wow. That was... A little too heartfelt.

Windows 7 looks fine, what about it looks unprofessional?
