Where'd all my fun go?

I have this same problem. And while part of it is due to Skyrim, the other part is that games today just aren't made with the love and care they used to be. So, boot up some old PS2 games while you wait, or play a Pokemon game. Everytime I start one I loose 50 hours.

I'm sort of bordering that opinion myself. I'm looking to classics at the moment to occupy me... I was browsing my external, filled with some of my old games from years back that I ripped off the disks, and considered playing fallout or daggerfall or something with some girt to it.

My hype for Skyrim is perfect at the moment.

Oblivion was my favorite game in the world. Right now I just don't really care. I know what the game will play like and I know that if worst comes to worst, it will at the very least be decent.

That kind of hype makes me fall in love with the game even more.

That's actually pretty much how I feel. I know it's not going to be the perfect game (well, without mods anyway) but I KNOW it will be good. I can tolerate glitches, crashes and bugs and I have accepted that bethesda don't deliver gripping stories... but god damn it, I want to get lost again.

Most of my "hype" actually accepts inevitable flaws, and if they are lacking, all the sweeter

Earlier this year I got into that phase. I was so psyched to play Dragon Age 2 that any other game I picked up didn't feel fun anymore. It wasn't what I wanted to play and so I couldn't get into it.

I simply stopped gaming and diverted to other hobbies until DA2 came out. After playing the game I got right back into gaming again for the rest of the year.

At this rate, I may run into the same problem with Diablo 3...I'm so looking forward to that game that my interest in Arkham City, Skyrim and Skyward Sword are beginning to fade.

I forgot about Arkham City... when is that out again?

I freely admit that the beta (which I've only seen and not played) has caused my level of hype for Diablo 3 to drop a little...but I'm still expecting a great gaming experience like Diablo 2.

Arkham City I believe comes out Oct 18th on consoles. Early November on PC. I'd rather buy it on steam personally, but they are taking their sweet time posting the game on there.

I actually felt this way just last week . what you need is a new game to bring back the passion . Might i sugest catherine or dark souls ? Something to kick you are and taunt you . Something that brings a sense of accomplishment when you advance , you'll be swearing like a sailor when you die and praising the sun ( dark souls reference ) when you suceed . Honestly those two game brought the passion back for me .

Yeah, gotta be careful regarding this. A lot of people end up disliking or finding a game disappointing due to the amount they hyped it up in their minds. Thankfully I can love a game despite my self-hype for it (such as HR), and maybe you're one of those lucky people OP, but if not, be careful.

I'm kind of out of the loop but I'm not bothered much missing some of these hyped games. Yeah, I put in that new/used game purchase as soon as I get home and play it for about 3 days (which is about how long on and off it takes me to reach the end of a game in general). However, knowing what to look for if a game peaked my interest kind of keeps me from getting about 60% of games... the hyped up ones.

Same problem with other games in my library too. Love is there, but satisfaction has vanished.

There was an article about that a few months ago here, on Escapist.

Anyway : maybe you should stay away from gaming for a while and try something new instead ?
As for me, whenever i'm bored or feel empty i read some good book or try to write some stories.
It always helps.

It's not like I'm devoted to gaming... I read books, I watch TV (very sparingly), I draw as a hobby, I go out and meet friends and I have a job that takes up the bulk of my time. Perhaps you're right, maybe my happy gland needs a rest

...just stay away from your common activities. "Known" means "safe" and "safety" brings boredom. Try something unconventional, like, ummmmmmmmm, hunting tiger sharks or something. Good luck, post results.

It might just be that you're bored of what's in your game library, rather than that Skyrim has made it so. Try getting Dark Souls, that's what I've done to ease the passage time between now and November 11.
