Where's the gold?

If you played Battlefield: Bad Company. You probably noticed that the main story revolved around gold. But in BFBC2, gold has no part whatsoever in the story, gameplay, or multiplayer modes.
So does anyone know why? I realize this has very little discussion value but I would like to know.

Also, what happened to the Legionnaire? He survived. They made it look like he would be the main villain in the second.

In the movie Pulp Fiction a case is picked up by two hitmen to deliver to there boss, however the inside of the case is never shown or talked about, the only indication of what is in the case is when the case is opened with the lid to the camera and a golden glow is shown on the openers (thats a word right?) face.

Its a crap explanation but hopefully it will do.
