Rammstein, and although i have not seen it, there is a symphony that did final fantasy music that was amazing to listen/watch (someone uploaded it to youtube)

I have to call it a tie between Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighters. Foo Fighters had the best overall show because their opener was Serj. RHCP had the Walkmen and Mars Volta. I don't know if something was wrong with their equipment or what, but the Walkmen and Mars Volta were terrible at the show I went to.

Reel Big Fish are up there too and one of their openers, Streetlight Manifesto, was a huge surprise to me (I'm not into that particular genre very much, but love RBF).

oh, and The Who puts on a good show. While I have never been to a concert by them, I saw an old one that was aired on T.V., when they performed at the Isle of White. They really engaged the audience in that one.

Rush, the greatest band ever!

I would put a Neil Peart drum solo in, but all the goods ones on youtube have the audio disabled :(
You can still see his amazing drumming in this video, but his solo at this concert blew my mind!

No Iron Maiden yet?! Da fuck?

Now, thats a performance :D

This is another of my fave live performances. No special lights or costumes, just sheer motherfuckin bad-assery.

Also, there is a distinct lack of Rammstein. I am dissapoint.

to answer the other question, my favourite live band that I've actually been to see are Flogging Molly. So much energy at their shows, both from the band and the crowd.

I'm going to go and say a band that vrey few Escapists would have heard of:
Split Enz/Crowded House.

They are one of the few bands that sound like their studio version on stage.
But considering they're the only concerts I've been to, and they're both made up of pretty much the same people (Neil and Tim Finn, plkus a couple of other musicians), if one sounds awesome on stage, then the other will.

It's not my intention to be antagonistic, but whenever someone mentions Maiden, all I can think of is Henry Rollins' account of them.
All in good fun!

I have to agree with the people who said Rammstein, not much connection with the audience, but damn visually it was quite a show. So much fire...

Corey Taylor can get the crowd hanging on his every command, even those who came primarily to see the support bands, so Slipknot are up there.

Skynyrd are the only band I've had the good fortune to see more than once, both times it was quite an experience. The crowd is more subdued given the style of music, not to mention the average age of the crowd were in their 50s (A guy in his late 50s crowd surfing is perhaps one of the funniest things I've ever seen) However, they actually seem like they appreciate their fans, they engage the crowd, everyone knows almost every word to every song, it was just really fun.

I may be biased there though, Skynyrd are my favourite band, of all time.

I suddenly have an urge to fireaxe my way through that knucklehead's guts up to his skull.

Yes, I'm a hardcore maiden fan. Case in point.

Anyway I was going to say Iron Maiden. Best ever.
