So,my brothers & I are planning out a new PC (Codename Raptor Pony MK5)to replace the old dinosaur from 2004, which is still capable of running ArmA II on medium-low mixed.
We have a budget of 2,000, and we are currently happy with all our selections, except which CPU to pick.
We are torn between the AMD Phenom nomnomnomnom X4 980 or the X6 1100T.
We don't really like Intel processors, all 3 of use grew up using AMD tech, and are very familiar with it.So don't try to convert me to Intel, by means of ''GO INTEL AMD SUX AAAAAAAAAAA''
Also, I am big into gaming & 3D modeling, so I need a CPU that fits the needs.I saw a weaker rig than I have planned run ArmA II OA on max at 40 FPS,so I'm quite fine.
So anyway, what should I get? the AMD Phenom X4 980, or AMD Phenom X6 1100T?

Well, I'm not sure about what AMD CPU is good at the moment. But there's little difference between AMD and Intel now, although Intel seem to have the best supported chipsets. I am a freelance 3D modeler and animator, so when I recently bough a CPU, it was pure power that was important for me. I got the 3930K. It's a little expensive though, so you gotta see if you can afford it. It is the second most powerful CPU on the market, and when overclocked, it easily surpasses the most powerful one (the 3930X).

Hmm, personal friends of mine also tell me to go 980.Also, our budget is ?2,000.
I already bought some decent hard-drives,and a decent optical drive, so they are out. Here is the rest of the build.

Processor CPU:AMD Phenom II X4 980 BE(Currently)
CPU Cooling: Antec Performance Cooling
Memory: 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz
Motherboard: Asrock 970 Extreme 4
Sound Card: 8 Chanel OnBoard Sound
Video Card 1 Main: Nvidia GeForce 1.536GB GTX580
Power Supply: Antec Gamer 520 Watt Power
Warranty Period: 2 Year Return to Base Warranty

I've seen weaker rigs than this run Crysis 2 on max at 30FPS, Arma II on max at 40, and Bf3 On ultra at 50.
My 3d Models aren't very demanding, I'm still learning, but I have a good few.I'm not really planning to OC.
The 980 seems more fitting, my main priority is gaming, 3d modeling, and the rest follow in no particular order(browsing, basic derping)

You may want to take your question to tomshardware.com. Those people really tear apart and dissect all the new components out there, in the search of the best possible setup for a computer.

From what little I know, I understand the hardware industry is shifting more responsibility from the CPU to the GPU (graphics card). So for game-specific rigs, you may do just fine with an AMD processor, provided you compliment it with one of the more recent ATI graphics cards.

Again, I urge you go to tomshardware.com. good site.

Please take this question to tomshardwasre.com .
And post a list of uses for this rig.
And for the love of god get a 2600k and save yourself a lot money.
BTW how the hell did you manage to get 2000 euros ( it is euros right? ).

The money is from 3 people, two of which are working full time, and one (myself) with a decent part time job. You'd be surprised how much money you can save up if you are patient and are good at managing it.Our budget had to go down to 1,500 euro, due to some issiues arising in extended family, which I'll keep private.
We also want this rig to last a long time, at least beating the record of this current rig( powering on for 8 years now)

8 years is a long time.

If you really want it to last that long wait for a few months before buying the rig as Intel is releasing a new generation of processors ( Ivy Bridge ), and so that the prices of the new generation of graphic cards drop so you can pick a higher-end graphic card without straining your budget.

If you have 1500 Euros to spend don't waste it on a nice looking case or an SSD.
Also is gaming a very high priority for this rig? ; and if so what resolution are you planning to play at.

I already have an Ivy bridge installed on it, the 3770 K is an Ivy bridge I believe.I plan to play at 1280 x 920 ,I find the ratio to width and detail perfect.

You're wasting the GTX 670's power if you're running at 1280x920, what's the point of getting a card that can run two monitors each at 1920x1080 if you're going to run it at 1280x920? You'd be better off buying a 580[footnote]I know the 580 is last generation but it's still a fantastic GPU.[/footnote] and an HD monitor to be honest.

The monitor I have is fairly recent, it can go 1620x1080,but it looks stretched and wierd.Ijust prefer 1280x920, and most games look very good(Especially ArmA II)the max resolution just doesn't really fit the monitor, I might get a better one, even though my current one is from 2010.I'll see how things play out after some tinkering at hardwareversand.

Fair enough, 1620 by 1080 is a weird resolution though. What's the brand/model of it etc? Also, you play Arma II, have you played Day Z? Bit off topic but anyway...

WOW! 3770K and a GTX 670 are such overkill just for 1620x1080 let alone 1280x920 that i just can't speak!

But since you want it to last a REALLY long time I guess it's OK.

You might want to get a monitor with a proper aspect ratio(16:9 ,The one you are using now) and
supports a native 1080p HD resolution.

Never heard of a 1620x1080 resolution. Really weird ratio.
