A lot of you are forgetting one of the single most frightening performances in the Doctors long history. For those not familiar with the old series, I both don't blame you and want to say "shame on you!" Because in my opinion there is one frightening monster whose true nature is forgotten by the viewer of today. And his name is Davros. Not the new series Davros, I'm talking about Tom Baker "Genesis of the Daleks". One only need look at this video clip. I don't mean to sound odd but he makes Adolf Hitler look like a pussy.

Embedded for you.

Davros is a horror all right, but he's more of a human horror. (He was based on Hitler, so your remark has a nice double edge) I don't find him terrifying because he's just an embodiment of the worst parts of human nature...and strangely that doesn't scare me as much.

I'd say Davros is more of a horror to the Doctor than to us, because he knows that there's no way to defeat him, except for his own ego.

And you could say the same about The Doctor himself.
But davros isn't *scary*, he's just psycopathic. and he can't even control all the daleks really, which leaves him relatively weak!

Mmmm, quite so. In that case I'd have to choose the Weeping Angels or The Silence because can't see (or remember) them unless you look right at them. You know what they say "The most terrifying monster is the one you cannot see." I also have another choice if it's allowed, I'd say the Time Lords from the end of the David Tennant era. Think about it, they manipulated the master throughout his entire life just so they could resurrect a dead dynasty.

As for Davros being a human horror, I think of him as a monster of the mind, the dark, evil portions of human mentality that no one wants to acknowledge but we all must deal with its existence and it eats away at you knowing what your race is capable of.

The Empty Child

And to a lesser extent Id say the silence, but they really didnt give us enough time to get all tense and suspense filled to be properly afraid of them.

I'd say the Silence are defiantly up there on the scariest list

But I think the one that messed with my head most was the Vashta Nerada. I was checking my shadows for a while after that episode

I think "the devil" on the asteroid above a blackhole. Incredibly well done in my opinion. particularly because he never did anything for most of an episode , instead there was just unsettling hints that he was here, and you could almost feel his hateful presence reaching through the screen. And when he finally did reveal himself, the doctor almost immediatly manages to put him back into place by giving an inspiring speech about how wonderful humans are and how we can overcome any obstacle, including this so called "devil." Sure it was humanist bull shit, but still inspiring.

The Doctor is clearly the biggest monster in the show. First he travels the universe messing around with the entire timeline seemly at will using a stolen time machine.

He takes multiple compainions and shows no problem putting them in danger and exploiting there loyalty for his own benefit. Not to mention atleast half of them seem to end up dead or injured and rather than feel guilty he simple shrugs it off and moves on to another one.

Last but not least he openly admits to the genecide of dozens of races, Including his own. It seems that for all his big talk the Doctor is just a borderline sociopath who thinks no more of wiping out whole races than the average person does about killing a fly.
