New Vegas....better than FO3 for many reasons (basically it had none of that bethesda "WE MAKE RPG's" bullshit)

For me it would be Fallout New Vegas, I keep going back to it to replay over and over again.

Fallout 3 manages to hold my attention for a few hours at best before I decide I can't stand it.

FO1/2 I have tried, got them from GOG (didnt play them when I was younger, most of my time was taken up by RTS games, Dune/C&C/RA/TA etc) and ended up with a migraine pretty quickly. I also believe the turn based type of nature they have puts me off, which really is a shame as I do still want to find out just why they were so highly praised.
Not sure on the OOB experience with the GOG versions these days, but if you really want to give it another go, I suggest you get the patches or at least read about them in the respective GOG or No Mutants Aloowed forum, if available. I'm not quite in the loop at the moment.

I can but vaguely remember what it was to get, but I believe there's one patch that addresses actual, potentially game breaking bugs and some content, while the second must-get patch allows you to play at higher resolutions. Both Fallout and Fallout 2 absolutely rock in FullHD or 1600xWhatever. When I first installed them for a heavy dose of retro, I - lover of Fallout - could just not get past the abysmal display quality of old stuff on modern, non-CRT screens and that resolution... what was it? 640x480? 800x600? It just hurt my eyes. Maybe they're already included in the GOG version? (Wishful thinking, I know)

New Vegas is DEFINITELY my favorite out in the series. It took my two playthroughs for me to really appreciate it's awesomeness.

I loved the plot, the characters, the gameplay, the places you go to, and of course the various choices you make and the outcomes they produce.

As for Fallout 1 and 2, I kinda have a hard time deciding which I liked better.

Fallout 1 I felt had a more tightly knit narrative, plus it had a MUCH better starting area. It was also very interesting to see the roots of the NCR.

Fallout 2 on the other hand, had far better companions and more content, especially if you used the restoration patch. It's starting area was a pain though. It forces you to use a friggen spear no matter what kind of character you want to play as, and the accuracy on it was pretty bad. The game got better once I actually got a gun though.

Fallout 3 was my very first Fallout game. And I remember having a good time with it as well. Not really as good time as New Vegas though.

New Vegas,

Looks great, interesting characters, moral greyness all-around (which is only a good thing in my book)
and the music kicked ass!

Hmm some good info, thanks for the tip. Will go forum digging and give them another go at a manageable resolution.
Hey. Yeah, I just thought I'd drop that info in your lap there.

See what version you got (GOG) and surf the forums there for starters. If you find nothing, summon Google and use "fallout 2 resolution patch" - good luck. It might involve some research and some fiddling at first, but I say it's well worth it. The end result could only be topped by playing it on a huge ass 80lbs CRT screen. Scanlines are way better than pixel perfection.

To see what it's all about, spoil yourself here:

YEAH FALLOUT TACTICS WAS THE BEST! I'm kidding. I like them all, the hardest comparison is Fallout 3 compared to New Vegas. can we all agree that Fallout: Brotherhood of steel was the worst?

Fallout, the first one.

Followed by fallout 2 so close it's a tough decision, and fallout new vegas because it has the fallout feel even though it's a different creature to handle.

Fallout 3 was alright, but I found it rather... I dunno, not gripping, I couldn't get into it as much, partly because the weapons feel shit, and break easily, the environment and characters felt kinda dead, like, too dead. And due to the whole shoehorning in of certain things, like Harold, WHY is harold on that coast? I mean, chances are, if the brotherhood of steel had a hard time getting there, harold woulda been killed off far before he got there, dude's a slow, old, ghoul.

Also he was running a town in fallout 2, so, a little explanation as to why he would want to uproot, and walk across a friggin continent, woulda been nice.
I totally agree! Harold was a wierd addition to fallout 3, especially since it was trying to grip and new audience than fallout fans. It really felt out of place and the story/location around him was just meh for me.

Both 1 and 2 are great, but I liked Fallout 1 more due to everything in it serving a purpose, in contrast to Fallout 2 where many places seemed to be there just to make the world feel bigger. Fallout 1 is my favorite.

I also like Tactics, and love both Fallout 3 and NV.
