Now that bungie is leaving the halo franchise and Microsoft obviously plans to beat this one as hard as they can likely until the horse is a fine mist in the air with there "343" studios. I expect it to go downhill faster than a fighter jet in a nosedive.

R.I.P Halo

As far for current downhill franchises? Final fantasy though everyone is saying it there saying it for good reason. When you got nearly more sequels than days on a calender it's time to let is go.

Final Fantasy
Resident Evil
Silent Hill (hopefully Downpour can save it)
Bioshock (hopefully Infinite can save it)
Rock Band/Guitar Hero (only a shotgun blast to the back of the head could save this)

I can't really think of a game off the top of my head, but the Wii is going downhill for sure. With the Move and Kinect out, there is just no one playing it anymore.

Max Payne, hands down.
I refuse to acknowledge the third part's existence.

Also I miss the charme of earlier Final Fantasy titles in the newer ones. Same with Pokémon.

Let me see.

Final Fantasy died with Squaresoft. Tomb Raider was dead after AoD. Devil May Cry is going to be ruined with the upcoming godawful redesign and Call of Duty peaked at CoD4.

On the upside, Guild Wars 2 is looking amazing, Battlefield 3 will get extra care given to the PC version and Duke has a release date.

Not enough Final Fantasy hate in this thread.
I know, I know, that sounded sarcastic... but it wasn't. Final Fantasy isn't going downhill, it hit rock bottom about a decade ago and stayed there.

Three series that came to mind when I saw "going downhill":
Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Supreme Commander. Simplified game mechanics cheapen gaming experiences for me.

Pokemon. Ever since they said that they will never release a Pokemon game like R/B/Y for an actual console, just because they don't think it will work, they've pretty much told me that the Pokemon gaming franchise will begin and end on a handheld, and that just disappoints me.

Its not about numbers. Each FF game had a different universe, and story and style. Too bad they just started to copy the FF8 look after FF9 so its just the same thing every time now.

Then again they did screw it up with actual sequels as well, so i have to agree with FF going downhill anyway.

I'm just going to talk about a series that has been up and down...Assassins Creed.

First game was entertaining but certainly had enormous amounts of room for improvement. AC2 just blew me away and then AC:B...yeah it's getting a bit like every game lately...it's the exact same. I can understand maybe Ubisoft want to cash in for more improvements with the next proper AC game, but if the next one isn't improved to the point where it feels like DLC then that series can go to hell.

Mario is the obvious one, with most of his games being just shy of complete remakes. Metroid with other m took about a million steps back from the metroid prime trilogy and final fantasy seems to be losing it's audience.
ah yes, shame, metroid was the only one out of the holy nintendo trinity that I liked

Oh and about mario seriously It should be socially acceptable by now to NOT think mario is the be-all-and end all of gaming (because he isnt) and yes I still dislike the wii,

I supose you could say that about a few older series, like Banjo kazooie (seriously what the FUCK was rare thinking?, they somhow managed to pull off the amazing feat of alienating their fanbase and not apealing to new players...good work guys)

residnet evil as well

Dragon Age :(

I actually liked the combat, graphics, and story in Origins. The sequel seems to be taking it all away to become more "streamlined" and "edgy". I'm sure Bioware will still release an awesome game, but it's a shame that it's at the cost of what made the original so unique.
now JUST HOLD ON THERE A MINUTE, it isnt even out yet so perhaps we should wait untill it is out before you decide if its bad or not, thats just pure specualtion and therefore I dont think that really fits in this list

sure there is a chance you wont like it (and thats fine) BUT its stupid to make up you mind now, no matter how bad of an impression you get from promotional material

like for example metroid other M, we all know how bad it is (shut up! it is!) but I wouldnt be critizing it unless it was out

Final Fantasy was out the window after 8
I'm with you here. I played them all, through to 9. 8 was a chore, 9 was the first one I didn't finish, and the rest---

oh, the rest...

Attempts by the crystal chronicles to reinvigorate the spirit of the series are paltry at best. I want FF to go back to its primitive roots.
By you've played them all do you mean you've only played VII and VIII? Maybe VI, but you know. If you had played I-VI and enjoyed them I don't see any reason why you would've disliked IX because it's basically all of the "primitive" ones mushed into one.

I'm not sure. I was a fairly religious FF fan up until IX. I played through it til I had an airship, something happened with the airship, and I just made a kind of mental note that I was done and was going to spend my time differently. Something was off, and I wasn't enjoying it like the old ones. Characters, quests, whole nine yards. I don't bother with the new ones either, but from my high horse it appears that they took the very things I found annoying and ramped them up to 11.

_MY_ favorite FF remains FF1 to this very day. Keep the vanilla FF1, (which is better than the FF1 remake) and add the ability to multibuy potions, and then I'm the happiest person ever.

Any series that just never seems to end, and doesn't add/improve upon what it had:
- Final Fantasy
- CoD
- WoW
Each of these has had a "HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS AMAZING!" moment... but kept on going.
WoW is an MMORPG, not a series, and does not need to change as much as regular games do. The expansions each bring plenty of change, anyways.

My opinion? The James Bond games.
But WoW frequently fucks up and doesn't deliver new fun content like it promises.
Only raid I enjoyed in Wotlk was Ulduar. Technically EoE as well, but that was just a secondary raid compared to Naxx at the time.
Besides that, WoW never really changes.

They made one for the PS3 after God Of War 3.
Ah.....Nope. Not sure where you got THAT from.

Also 3 was just an extention of 2...making it slightly worse
*Insert insufferable sarcasm about looking up "sequel" in the dictionary here*
Also, I heard rumors they might be doing "Kratos versus other Gods"

Hell, why not? The story has already broken down beyond repair by the end of the third game, so at this point, I'll be happy with any excuse for Kratos to tear apart really big stuff.

Right, now we have that over with....SPYRO. THE MOTHERFUCKING. DRAGON. Whoever fucked that series up deserves to be ran over by a fucking train. I have NO IDEA when the last game came out, and I'm glad. I just know that the shit-to-quality ratio for that series was not looking good the last time I checked.

Goddamn piece of my childhood, man.

I can't comment of Final Fantasy, since I've only played 13. Well, some of it, anyways. And GOD IT WAS UUGHHH- sorry, said I wouldn't comment.
No, I'm going with Kingdom Hearts on this one. 1 and 2, Birth By Sleep and 364/2 Days were damn good, but all the mini-games are just... ugh. Hopefully, the mythical KH3 will be decent.
