Banjo Kazooie, and Banjo Tooie.

You look me in the eye and tell me otherwise.

Deadly Premonition. I don't think I've heard all it has to offer yet but every track I've heard so far has been either brilliantly haunting or stupidly hilarious.

I'd say the Final Fantasy games. Even though their stories are rather unpredictable, the music is always top notch. :D
Definitely. Especially with XIII, even though it wasn't the best game, they really stepped it up with the soundtrack.

Also, Metroid. Prime 1 had this gem-

And that's just the file select theme.

I wouldn't claim "best", but my personal favorite is the Mother series.

It just seems to fit better with the gameplay than any other series. Even if they may have ermm... illegally sampled a couple dozen songs in creating the soundtrack.

Objectively best is tough though, it's impossible to compare orchestral scores with anything that came before really. I mean, Halo has great music, but so did Megaman, Mario, Sonic, Star Fox, Punch Out, Duck Tales...

Zelda's had some classics here and there too. ;)

I think the Total War series has amazing music. The songs by Jeff van Dyck are simply awesome, especially the credits music when his wife sings.

Gonna have to agree with the OP in this one. Really the entire Halo series has just had amazing music, Halo 2 probably being the personally favorite, but it's a VERY close race.

Honorable mentions to Red Dead Redemption and the Mass Effect series.

Let's see, the Silent Hill series, Mirror's Edge, Halo series, American McGee's Alice, Assassins Creed series, BlazBlue, Metal Gear Solid, Mafia 2, Metro 2033, Super Meat Boy, System Shock 2, The Witcher, Touhou, Oblivion and some more I cannot remember right now.

I'm going to have to go with Kirby.

I love HAL's music in general, but Kirby's music is just so much fun to listen to. Especially when it has tracks that can go from this...

to this..

Gonna go with Metroid.

Halo has probably the most impressive when it comes to its full orchestras and how it adds to the scope of how epic it is. Zelda has the memorable music with all the familiar cues and themes, but Metroid wins in my book that it always captures the atmosphere of a scene perfectly, combined with great, eerie spacey music that just brings a certain bleakness at times, real feelings of being alone and almost trapped, vulnerable even though you're a walking arsenal. Not that it's spooky all the time or like a kind of horror game, it's atmosphere- and I love me some well crafted atmosphere.

Those are my top 3 actually, halo, LoZ, and metroid.

You might enjoy this, it's a halo remix, but it sounds a ton like metroid:

As hard as it is to pass any kind of compliment to them anymore i'd have to say the FF series.

I say a lot of Nintendo's games (both old and new) have really good music. So does the Battlefield series, despite being oriented towards MP.
