The Zelda Orcarina of Time. Don't get me wrong, I love a good Zelda game but not the same game over and over and over again! Plus Sonic and Madden. Both franchises are WAY over-used.

This series hasn't been good since it left the original development team, someone needs to burn it and smoke the ashes in a fine pipe.
I wish you were wrong, my good friend, but unfortunately you're right. These newer games are basically just dancing on the grave of a fine series.
Also Final Fantasy. I swear, the name "Final" has to be a joke, because Final is the one thing none of these games are.

final fantasy for also starting to show downgrading

those stupid football games all they end up doing is cluttering up the clearance bins the next year

cooking games in general they at least need to slow down production of new ones the market is starting to be oversaturated

and to reply to the naysayers aginst pokemon Not till we get an MMO!

I'm amazed that people say Halo (total of six games, and Wars doesn't count because it was shit), when franchises like Final Fantasy have to have sequels for their sequels.

No franchise has gone on long enough. Quit being annoyed that people like things that you don't like.

Final Fantasy when you hit game 14 you need to stop
bull shit! they advertised Final fantasy 27 in Deus Ex HR so now they HAVE to make 13 more! (/sarcasm off)

as for me, nintendo's series have probably gone on too far, but i still have fun from them so its not the end of the world.

madden should probably stop. the sports series really are going on for far too long with nothing really new.

Metroid has had it's run. It was a good franchise but hardly anyone nowadays still thinks about it.

The Final Fantasy series except for the Tactics games. Tactics is pure gold and is an actual consistent world "sorta" while each new numbered FF title is more fail than the last. I get that eastern RPGs are different western but seriously the characters, story, and most importantly gameplay mechanics are really getting horrible. Make a serious tactics game that isn't on a hand held.

CoD needs to die in a fire horribly. Its the blight on the gaming industry as it shows that creativity and quality doesn't matter if you shower the player with gold stars and have a non existent learning curve. QA, balance, and writing are non important and instead those resources should be wasted on making horrible maps and even more horrible maps that require you to pay $15 for. The paid service is the biggest rip off EVER and is just milking the morons who buy the game for even more money.

and just because you dont like wars doesn't mean it didnt happen. it wasnt terrible, but it wasnt great, and it still happened.

i agree to the rest of your post however. its funny how people think 7 halo games is too much (more like 6 since wars could justifiably be called a spin-off like final fantasy tactics), when with final fantasy most agree 7 was the best.

when a series becomes almost exactly the same game each time, so each sequel may as well have been dlc (cough cough sports games cough), then it has gone on too long. and halo may not have changed a whole lot, but each game added something new and nice and continued the story, which finally ended with the 3rd, and the prequel of reach added the nice mechanic of armor abilities and a much improved forge; so a very worthy final game. (the new trilogy should be called something different though, since its a whole new story to tell, with hopefully many a new character)

I don't think any game needs to stop as long as they make them better and add more features like in reach when they added the awesome forge mode. Thats why I bought it. black ops didn't impress me it seemed like a map pack not a game. series's don't need to stop crap games do.
Halo 3 had forge...

I think Halo should keep going, even though ODST and Reach were average and it's not as if they are digging the series out of a grave as the end of Halo 3 was definitely setting up a sequel.

Final Fantasy, what is it now? Final Fantasy 13-2?
Fifa/Madden anything else in the sports genre

Nintendos Flagship franchises -

Sonic 1991 - Today
Mario 1981 - Today
Metroid 1986 - Today
Zelda 1986 - Today
When the hell did sonic become a nintendo franchise?

Also for those who say final fantasy , you guys do realise the stories and games have absolutely nothing to do with each other right? They bassically their own independent games ( except for x-2 and xiii-2) and could be called something totally different and still hold up .

And those who say the sports game lolwut? So you want to stop making sports games entirely? Really?

This thread has hit a whole new level of silly .

OT: halo should have stoped after 3 , does no one know what a trilogy is anymore?
Star wars. Is it really necessary to make so many star wars games?
Sonic . I feel bad for sonic poor guy let him rest in peace
Metal gear "solid" . This too should have ended after 3. Im not opposed to making more metal gear games , just not "solid"
Devil may cry . Another game that shoulda stopped after 3

Pokemon.

EDIT: The original concept was great, but now it just screams "cash cow!"

Other long-running JRPG series like Final Fantasy have at least occasionally attempted to inject innovation into the genre. Pokemon now is almost the exact same as it was when it started, except now there's so many creatures that the idea of "Gotta catch 'em all" is ludicrous.

Oh great, this thread is just an invitation to say "ZELDA/MARIO/METROID/NINTENDO NEEDS TO DIE!"

Ignoring, of course, the fact that PS3 and Xbox have their own Zeldas/Marios/Metroids. Just because they haven't been around as long doesn't mean that they aren't the same damned games over and over again.

Of course, at LEAST half of you will disagree with me due to rampant and rabid Nintendo hatred.

Resident Evil 5 felt like one too far for a couple of reasons:
1. I know it's largely a B movie premise for zombie shenanigans, but the same cast and the same corporation with a long public history of being evil continuing to show up and do further evil is beyond tired. Give us a fresh premise at least.
2. the clanging mismatch of enforced co-op combat coupled with a combat style better suited to survival horror. It worked in RE4 when it was you and a schoolgirl vs the world: you and a combat hardened soldier with busted AI just ruined any tension the scenario might have created.

Id say Sonic. I feel bad for the poor thing. They need to take him out back, and hit him over the head with a shovel, just to end his miserable life.

Shit. I hadn't realized how much hate there was for Final Fantasy. I really feel it should go on, while I agree there has been a general drop in quality since X. If nothing else, you can't say that they don't try new things. Other than that, I pretty much agree with everything Zero Machine said. While I agree that new IP would be preferable, I also say pretty much all these franchises are fun. Also, I think it's funny-and very good-that nobody mentioned Elder Scrolls/Fallout.

Final Fantasy. The last good game in the series, IN MY OPINION, was VI.
An opinion shared by the vast amount of people on here, created from the extreme level of hype VII gets. It was a good game, and great at the time, but even as a fan I can't say it deserves the godlike level of praise it gets.

And the correct answer for best FF is 10, if you were wondering.
I didn't get the connection with 10 that I got with VI

Oh, and you get 3 internets because of your name.
