I just want to see what peoples opinions are now that its been a year since the great hipster rivalry between these two games began.

Personally Im in Bioshocks camp all the way. All of the science stuff is legit the gameplay is frenetic and fun and fits with the feel of the world and all in all I was touched by the story. Im also just not interested in zombies and I cant see the last of us having character development on par with the likes of a show like breaking bad(not that bioshock does either mind you but to make up for a setting that I didnt care for it would need that in its pocket to interest me)

So yeah for me bioshock is better and I think its just hip to dismiss it! XD So what about you?

Oh yes, this'll go spectacularly!

Anyway, I finished The Last of Us at least 6 times, and I couldn't even finish Infinite once. So there ya go.

I'm out before my hair gets mussed.

Yes yes go your hair is very proper but it goes with your glasses.:p

Its just like how I have friends who think supernatural is great(I think its ok at best) but cant get into game of thrones, breaking bad or true detective! Taste is subjective I swear! lol

As far as I'm concerned both were terribly overrated. I did end up finishing Bioshock Infinite though, so take that as you will.

Ugh.

Y'know what's overrated? The word "overrated". It's just inherently so fucking smug.

Anyway, I liked 'em both. So there. Hipster that!

I guess I like TLoU a bit better. It's more grounded, despite the fungus zombies, it's character development (well, relationship development really) is a bit more subtle and I liked the tone of it's action. Intense, small scale, armed brawls between desperate, smelly people rather than overblown set pieces.

On the other hand Infinite got to do all sorts of whacky stuff that would have been utterly out of place in TLoU. So, even though they're both about a grumpy badass voiced by Troy Baker going on a violent trip with a relatively cheerful lass in tow, they're hard games to compare. It's kind of an apples VS oranges thing.

I think both games are underrated now due to their overrated status.

Which coincides with some truly overrated game critics underrating these games and most underrated game critics overrating them.

I give this topic a five out of six apples and two out of twelve oranges.

Y'know, it's vaguely frustrating to give a semi-serious and somewhat verbose answer to a thread, only to have someone else immediately come along and say more or less the same thing, but in a more concise, cleverer and funnier way.

Gratz.

Liked both?! but I ....cant ...no hip....stereeeerrrrrrrr brain cant......COmPute!!!!1 lol

possibly but this threads meta is about owning your own inner smugness about a given thing and just going with it instead of denying that it is something greater, Like legitimate unbiased criticism for example.

appropriately I must like meta bs since I prefer Bio infi.

Also troy baker voiced both? huh didnt know that.

I would go with Bioshock Infinite as I enjoyed that more although I felt the ending sections of The Last of Us were stronger than Bioshocks.

Gotta be honest though neither game really impressed me that much didnt hate either I just found them pretty forgettable experiences. The Last of Us looked nicer and had better art assets but Bioshock Infinite had better art direction imo probably due to its great setting allowing for that.

They're both pretty awesome games.

Bioshock Infinite seems to me like the kind of thing someone would make if it was their last or only chance to make something creative or memorable. As in I don't know if I'll ever get the chance again to make something with this scale and budget so I'm just going to cram everything I think is cool into this one game, lets see... Floating city, pinkertons, roller coasters, multiple universes/time travel ummm..? steam powered cyborgs, top hats, handlebar mustaches, giant robot bird thing... uh? what else is there?

Anyway I really dig that kind of thing, it was just overflowing with style and creativity oftentimes seemingly without much direction but still worthwhile.

The Last of Us is certainly much more focused and clearly thoughtout than Infinite, its narrative is probably the best I've ever experienced in a videogame before. It did take me quite a while to fully appreciate it though as most of the really good stuff dosen't kick in until the second half, the first half is pretty much just typical videogame zombie mode and does drag on a bit but I suppose it all adds to the experience by the end.

I still haven't been enticed to give Infinite a go yet. It may be years before I finally do, but I love TLoU. So my view sits alongside 'worthless'. However, that game can get me so immersed in what's goi.. "OMG! A Clicker spotted me, SHIV HIS NECK! PRAY NONE others hear! Shit! is one of the big fat ones! RUN! WE'RE GONNA DIIIEE!" Ah, sunlight. Ellie and Joel really do tell a great story. Although, I haven't the experience to give Infinite a fair shake. Hey look, giraffes...

I thought they were both fantastic. Make of that what you will.

If I had to choose between them, TLoU would win. But they were easily in my top 3 games of 2013, behind Persona 4 Golden.

So, did you actually play the Last of Us? Because I haven't played Bioshock Infinite and can just as easily claim that it's probably not that great, while praising tLoU's character development (which is, by the way, fucking stellar. It's not often that I am so emotionally tied to the character that I will not look for collectibles just to keep with the integrity of what is happening, and some of the moments it sets up are incredible).

So my input is the Last of Us is great, but I can't speak for Bioshock Infinite.

I haven't played TLOU and I probably never will. I'll just add my two cents about Infinite:

Infinite hat really lackluster gunplay and the upgrade mechanic contradicted the whole weapon limitation system in place (you up weapons and limit yourselfs to them because other will be shit in comparison. This leads to ammunition problems and the fact that you won't want to spend your big gun ammo on smaller enemies. Or you go like I did and don't upgrade at all and rotate your weapons in regard of what is avaiable), the plasmids were forgetable (I only used shock in my playthrough, no need to ever switch them) and it just had way too many enemy encounter for them to be fun.

Is it overrated? In regard of its many flaws: Yes, I would say so. Is it bad? No, not at all.
More or less this. I though that the combat dragged down the game a great deal by being really borning and repetitive. It felt like it was using modern military shooter gameplay because that's what's popular and not because it fits Bioshock's style at all.

I think they're both overrated as the most amazing games ever.

But I think they're certainly damn fine games which everyone should try to play at least once (borrow it from a friend at least).

Bioshock Infinite I did in a single sitting, and it was glorious.

The Last of Us took me three sittings. It was also pretty damn good.

But as they are completely different games which try to tell different stories and are only compared because they released at the same time, I don't think they need to be compared.

Both of them are paragons of the type of game they aspire to be. But they don't tread on each other's toes, so stop forcing them into a room to fight.

I think they are both great games.
I'm a huge Bioshock fan and I really liked Infinite. The gameplay was a lot of fun, I loved the characters and the story was interesting although it has its flaws. I don't own a PS3 and so I've only watched TLOU as a 4 hour game movie that someone had edited together quite well, so I don't know anything about how good the gameplay is, but man that story, the feels at the ending.

So why is it that you have to be in one camp? I think they are both amazing and underrated.

Both great, but The Last of Us is a bit too standard.

I still think that "The Citizen Kane of Gaming!" is what caused there to be such a backlash towards TLoU, but I don't mind either game.

I personally prefer Bioshock Infinite, because to me "The Citizen Kane of Gaming!" would be more game-y, something to be studied and analysed like the actual film, whereas TLoU is a bit too cinematic for me.

Still, room enough for both, and we should be glad that they made 2013 as unique as they did.

Oh yeah!

I actually liked the gameplay, I thought it was fun and visceral without taking away anything from the game.

If there's one thing I can't stand is when people repeatedly, as in to this day keep harping about the gameplay unprovoked.

Yes, it's not for some, but let's face facts: neither of these games are actual pioneers in gameplay.
