Ok, the two games are MHFU (Monster Hunter Freedom Unite) to the PSP and Dark Souls for the PS3.
I know Dark Souls has a higher penalty for dying but I always seemed to have more difficulty completing missions later in the game on MHFU. I thought it'd be fun to have something (kind of) recent to challenge the throne and see what people think.
Personal Experience
Hardest mission on MHFU (that I've done): Narga-something (giant bat) a Tigrex, and a Shen-something (giant crab with sythe-claws)
Hardest boss on DS (imo): The 4 Kings.
Also lets hear about the hardest boss/mission that comes to mind for yall when you had trouble getting through a game. To make it fair, The oldest systems the game can be on are the N64, Dreamcast, and PS1.
