I have found that eastern developers are better than western - from Germany east, games seem to be more original a lot of the time (I sense "you are calling JRPGs original?" coming my way). Metro 2033, Stalker, cryostasis, i found all of these great, probably because they come from a different culture, so they seem more fresh than what we see as a game.SakSak said:I think it's more the case of JRPGs coming from an entirely different culture. Western sensibilities are somewhat at odds with the common themes and archetypes many, if not all, JRPGs have: wildly coloured hair, extravagant speeches that make little sense unless one thinks about them in context, blatantly impossible weapons etc.
It's like compairing True Lies with Shi mian mai fu - both have action, and some common elements, but the package is just too different for the average westerner to incorporate in one sitting. And one sitting is sadly all what many are willing to give JRPGs.

wasn't that Fallout3?unacomn said:HA! I'm so detached from the JRPG genre that the quiz refuses to work for me. Therefor, my personality is the Anti-JRPG-st. I hereby claim my throne and look forward to the battle of ARPGeddon.
I watch ZP because i find it funny, and most of the stuff he rips on, i agree with, even if he's tearing apart a game i love, its still funny. I dont really watch ZP as a review of a game, because i'd rather play it myself to form an opinion, which i think alot of people who watch ZP forget (im especially thinking of the people who think its cool to post "FIRST!" on the comments) is that they're allowed to have their own opinions, and still find ZP funny. The Cheezy One said:And these people I pity the most. Many people take his words too far though. If he says "I am not a fan of XYZ", suddenly a hundred XYZ haters appear on the forums.

You would be surprised. Someone could be a supporter of a game, ZP rags on it for 4 minutes 30, then they realise how much they have hated it all along.Zhukov said:Ugh.The Cheezy One said:I don't get the bashing myself. Yeah, because it isn't possible for someone to hold an opinion different to your own for valid reasons. Nope, they must all be getting brainwashed by Yahtzee.
ZPs ok and all but what grinds my gears is the fact everyone uses Final Fantasy as basis for their argument, I love FF and all it's abominable offspring but it's not the only JRPG ever made.......It's not even the best JRPG ever made.Ilikemilkshake said:I watch ZP because i find it funny, and most of the stuff he rips on, i agree with, even if he's tearing apart a game i love, its still funny.
